What professions are best to have multiples of and why?
I can think of alchemy(daily transmutes), maybe tailoring and JC(to get all your cuts quicker)
would love to see your thoughts on the matter

I would have professions that have Muilt Specs. Like Alc and Eng.

that sounds like a good idea, i have had a look through most of the other professions and the only other profession i can find that would be useful to have multiple of would be Inscription to get more than one darkmoon card per day. leaves quite a bit of room to stack transmute alchemists and scribes + the odd tailor/ JC
thanks guys

I'd like to add all farming profession.
Every time i'm doing dailies on one of my "non-farmers", i feel i've wasted all that leather/ore/herbs i flew past.

Since imperial silk is BoP, all tailor alts need the rep and the patterns to be useful. Extra scribes for more scrolls may have been useful, but with the new raid tier coming out shortly, the cards are becoming obsolete. Multiple JCs means only that you can learn all the designs more quickly.
I see a good benefit only in having multiple transmutation masters, because the product of the daily, living steel, is not BoP and can be traded. And this;I'd like to add all farming profession.

Early on in expansions; Any of them with daily cooldowns.
For performance; Generally engineering and one of the crafting professions (read as anything except herbalism/mining/skinning)
Later on in expansions(anything past first month or so); Gathering professions as fewer people tend to feel like farming, thus allowing the market price to start rising again. Crafting professions with desirable epics, as a large quantity of the wow population (casuals, alts, latecomers) will be looking around for gear to help their ilvl to get into lfr or secure a raid slot with their guild.
I personally like having multiple jcs/scribes, to learn more cuts/glyphs in a shorter amount of time (rng permitting).

Totally agree. Plus the leather people are leaving behind too!
