Biggest help would be not to use Frost spec in dungeons. And you said you are lvl 30 right? You should go to your class treiner and from him you should but duel specialition or what is it for about 10gold. Then you can put Arcane for other spec and keep Frost as other spec. Everytime you go to dungeon change Frost spec to Arcane spec and when the dungeon ends you change back to Frost while you quest.

as the 1st responce said, just use frostbolt until Figer of Frost activates, then if u have, ice lance.
when soloing, frost is actually quite a god leveling spec in old day cause u put up manasheild/ice barrier, run thought a ton of mobs, frost nova them in 1 place, blink, turn around, and spam blizzard so they never reach you or hopefully die before they do..any that do live, just nova/blink/repeat blizzard again.
Feel free to get a secondary spec, but play what you enjoy, dont feel you have to get an arcane or fire spec if u dont wanna play them.

Hello sailormaki, I'm currently leveling a Frost Mage on Whisperwind.. Im lvl 34 and just now am begining to learn my rotations and increase my dps. It takes awhile to get up there into the dps meters.. What I am doing for a rotation right now is this: I open up the fight with my high damage spell, "Frostfire".. Don't spam this because it takes forever to cast. Then I do "frostbolt. Spam frostbolt until Fingers of frost has activated. It stacks twice, so wait till you have 2 uses and then use Ice Lance twice to use them up.
Once you get Blizzard, at level 52 i think, then its a whole different ball game.. this is where a frost mage really tops the meters. I am almost always #2 in damage in a 5 man dungeon. I just wait for the tank to get aggro then I use Blizzard. this is of course if the tank pulls more than one mob. A good habit to get into is to visit your factions target dummies.. I use these each time i learn a new spell. I want to check it out and try to incorporate into my rotation.
Go to Curse.com and download "Recount".. this will tell you your damage and dps output. As far as Frost VS Fire, I have fire as my other spec, and honestly i dont see that much difference. I think Fire is more about DPS output, whereas Frost is more about controlling the fight and assisting the tank. I use Frost exclusively in dungeons and have had no problems!
I dont know what your professions are, but Tailoring and enchanting go good with a mage. Thats what I have on mine. You can make your own armor and enchant it also. Currently I have
Robe of Power
.This is a robe exclusivly for tailors.
As a caster you want to have Intellect as your primary stat with Spirit a close second. I also always carry Mana potions and healing potions with me.
good luck in your gaming and as always "May the Light be with you"

First off, don't worry so much about the people who are quick to judge. Everyone was new and a total noob at some point in the game no matter who they are or what they can do now; most of us come from humble beginnings. While you will run into jerks every now and then, you will also find caring and considerate players who will help you out along the way. The important thing is to learn as you so wisely are doing.
As a Mage, you're a glass cannon. Powerful, but fragile. I'm sure you're getting used to this fact and if not, you will soon enough.
Frost
Spam
Frostbolt
. It's your main "nuke" spell, slows down enemies and helps to proc
Fingers of Frost
If enemies get too close, use either
Frost Nova
or your pet's ability,
Freeze
, to freeze them in their tracks. You can also use
Cone of Cold
to slow down enemies near and in front of you
When you have
Fingers of Frost
, use your
Ice Lance
ability. This spell does 4x as much damage against "frozen" targets, and Fingers of Frost gives an extra 25% damage boost. (See below)
All spells have a higher chance to crit (deal 200% or twice as much damage) on enemies considered "frozen" thanks to
Shatter
, a passive ability all mages have. Spells like
Frost Nova
and
Freeze
not only root the enemy in place, but also cause them to be considered "frozen". Spells that hit them have a much higher chance to crit and deal a lot of damage. This is what Frost is all about and is most known for. Freeze them in their place, then
shatter
them with powerful spells!
Pick up
Ice Barrier
, and use it all the time. Your healers will love you, and you will have a protective shield to help you absorb damage from enemies
Now since you're new to WoW and PC games in general, you probably aren't too familiar with a lot of the slang, abbreviations or acronyms players use to talk about things in game. If you have any questions at all about anything, feel free to ask at anytime.
And remember, don't sweat your DPS at these levels. Use this time to learn what it means to be a Mage. And above all, have fun with it!

I think you guys (or most of you) are forgetting she is still a lowbie. So, I belive that the most advice we can give her is not about the best level 90 rotation, or gear upgrading, etc. but basic stuff, like:
1-) Do you use keybinds or do you click your spells? If you click, then stop right now, it will destroy your dps. Bind EVERY SINGLE SPELL that you use frequently to easy to access keys
2-) Are you moving a lot? I have been playing a mage for over 5 years, trust me when I tell you that positioning yourself is THE MOST important thing, since correct positioning will usually mean less movement, which in turn translates to best DPS
3-) This might sound stupid as hell, but I`m gonna ask: are you using the right Armor spell? I am leveling a resto druid and I'd say 80% of the time I see mages using the wrong Armor spell
4-) Are you gearing correctly? (which means: are you selecting your gear based on the most important stat to your class/spec?) You won't believe how many mages I've seen using Stamina gear (with Agility, Strength instead of Intellect)
5-) Choose the spec is the most FUN for you to play (at level 30 unless you are a Twink, your dps won't matter much, since you'll be leveling so fast and things will be changing so rapidly). If possible, have 2 specs, since a leveling spec is mostly based on damage + survival, and a dungeon/raid spec is focused solemnly on pure raw damage/dps.

It might depend on what level they are. We only get access to Molten at 30-ish, Frost at 52, and Mage at 80. So if you see a level 40 Arcane Mage using Molten, it might just be because there's no choice.

I completely agree. But to see a level 84 Mage running Cata dungeons in Frost spec, spamming Cone of Cold at point blank range using Mage Armor makes me wanna puke. And then he didn't know why he was pulling like 4k dps while everyone else was pulling 2x - 3x more.
And the worse part is: you try to help out the guy, link him some websites like IcyVeins and Noxxic to try to steer him in the right direction and what do you get? A guy cursing your mother..... sad, sooooo, sad.

Hello all,
First, thanks for the great tips. This thread saved me! I was getting a growing HEADACHE because I had no idea how or where to repair my armor.
I am new to WoW, but I play regularly in LOTRO. WoW is similar enough in some respects, but when I went to repair my worn armor, no clue. On this thread I saw "Find a blacksmith and repair your items regularly". OK, I have been questing on Bloodmyst and looked ALL AROUND Blood Watch for a blacksmith. Finally, ready to pull out my hair, I noticed a girl/elf with the title "bower". I thought, "Why not" and sure enough, I found the option to "repair" at the BOTTOM of her menu. A BOWER? is not a BLACKSMITH. This was very bothersome to me. At least in LOTRO, figuring these type of things out are pretty much a slam dunk. Here, I guess if I have to understand that a "bower" can repair armor, then who KNOWS what else I'll get stuck on! :/

If you look on your minimap, there's a tracking button on it. (should be on the top left corner of the minimap). Click on it, and you should find an option to track blacksmith (or repairs, can't quite remember). If you do this, any npc that can repair your equipments will appear as anvils in the minimap.
Hope that helps.

Well tell how is it possible that Clicker like I can do most of the damage in Dungs/raids?
There is nothing wrong with clicking...
Why ppl keep saying that only noobs click spells?
Always after they have said that I duel them and I beat them.
Please tell me whats wrong with clicking?

Keybinds are generally faster than clicking and most people use the mouse for movement instead, though I do think Darkwraith is over-exaggerating a tad. It won't destroy your dps, though maybe you might not be doing your highest potential.

Hi guys,
I'm completely new to WoW and PC games overall. It's really difficult for me still too and I get extremely frustrated because I always start doing terrible in dungeons. And what's worse is people don't understand that I am new to this so I end up getting kicked out and it's frustrating. I need help with the rotations and stuff. I have a blood elf frost mage level 30. Can anyone help this poor girl out? );
There are alot of players like that now-a-days, they never understand that anyone could be a beginner to the game and they tend to forget they were once in your shoes once upon a time.
I always try to help out new players when i can, though i am limited on knowledge about this game myself, but as you have discovered, there are alot of rude people in the world......of warcraft.

It has nothing to do with gender, honestly. Most of the time, it comes do what you're used to. For me, I could never play a melee because I'm too used to playing a ranged caster.
Playing a mage for a first time can be a bit disorienting, especially if you're used to being melee and just charging in. One important thing to remember is that a mage is not made to trade blows with the adds. You're meant to kill them before they can lay a hand on you.
The key to doing all that is range, and planning. You have range, so use it. Begin a pull from max range if possible. Frostfire bolt comes with a snare, so it's great for slowing enemies down. You're also given a lot of escapes early on (though probably not at level 5) , so use it to your advantage.
Use Ice Nova to freeze adds that are close, and move further before resuming your casts. Use Fireblast when adds are close to finish them off. Blink is a great way to get some distance. Polymorph is fantastic when levelling, allowing you to remove one add from combat entirely.
Mages are not for everyone, but I'd recommend sticking to at least level 10 and choosing your specialization before deciding it's not for you.
