Hi All,
Today at raid finder difficulty I won 2 tokens to get 2 tier set pieces from the vendor. I have noticed that you can upgrade the tokens. What happens if I upgrade the tokens? Do I get access to normal or even heroic raid items (I don't think so) or just better versions of the items?
In this case is it the same to upgrade the item after buying it with the non-upgrade token?
Thank you!

Upgrading an item increases it's stats and iLevel. For Raider Finder gear, it'll cost you 750 Valor Points per upgrade (you can upgrade it 2 times) for which your item will go up 8 iLevels in total (4 iLevels per upgrade).
Personally, I wouldn't waste Valor Points on upgrading items unless you don't need Valor Points to purchase actual gear from the vendors anymore.
I'm not sure if you can actually upgrade the token, or if it just means the gear from the token is upgradeable, but either way there won't be any difference in results.
You can check the respective Wowhead page to see how upgrading an item effects it, for example:
Robes of the Burning Scroll
(go to the page and select "Upgrade Level 1" and "Upgrade Level 2" to see the stat increase).

According to this comment
, upgrades applied to the token are applied to the purchased item as well, but as Calaelen said, first spend your VP on actual items, and only upgrade LFR items to avoid the VP cap.

OK, So I got a Shoulder Blank the other day in a raid (don't remember which) but it was for my 483 Shoulder piece. I noticed when I went to turn it in for the shoulders that it had 2 available upgrades but no Ilevel listed. My question is if I were to upgrade the blank before turning it in, will the piece of armor it represents be better than it would if I just turned it in like it is?

As mentioned (and linked) by Nulgar above, if you apply your upgrade to the token itself, when you turn the token in you get the "upgraded" equivalent piece (i.e. if you spend 750 valor points to upgrade a LFR token ilvl
Helm of the Shadowy Conqueror
you get
Sha-Skin Hood
but with an ilvl of 487 instead of 483... alternatively, you can turn it in for the ilvl 483 item and THEN upgrade it to 487)
