Hey Wowhead community!
I make fan art in my spare time. Specifically, I make desktop wallpapers in all shapes, sizes, and formats. I love to share my art, and the art that inspires me. I'd like to share a crazy idea with you guys on Wowhead. Instead of a regular desktop background, why not have one that moves?
One of my good friends showed me this program called "Dreamscene" a while back. It's built into every Windows computer after XP, and is only enabled by default on the Ultimate editions. Basically, what Dreamscene does is that it allows you to set a video as your desktop wallpaper, and it loops! Well, my best friend asked me to make him a WoW desktop wallpaper of his character a while back, and it inspired me to create some free fan art for the WoW community in a new and fresh way.
Recently, I made an animated wallpaper of
Illidan and the Black Temple
, but everyone kept suggesting that I make one of Arthas and the Frozen Throne. So, here is Arthas and the Frozen Throne... in motion:

**Edit#2: There are instructions on how to obtain each video, install dreamscene, and set things up within the description of each video.**
All of this fan art is 100% free, and I get nothing for it except enjoyment knowing that other people can experience and enjoy the fantastic art of Blizzard in a new and exciting way.
If you have suggestions, comments, or questions, feel free to post them in this thread or over on the
official forums
.
Enjoy!

Alas, this will not work for me. I get 2 errors. the first is; "Windows DreamScene can't run as your desktop is now configured". The fix for this supposed to be enabling "Show translucent selection rectangle" in the advanced system settings, but it was already checked.
The second error is; 'Windows DreamScene cannot run because the computer is currently using more than one video adapter." Supposedly you get this when you have more then one graphics card, and I run my system in SLi.
If anyone knows any fixes for these, that would be wonderful as these look like amazing wallpapers. You definitely did a wonderful job.

This is the first that I've heard of these issues with Dreamscene. I wish that I knew of a fix for you. Let's hope that a really tech savvy person will see this and answer!

There is also a workarround with Dreamscene by using VLC mediaplayer. There is a detailed explanation on howtogeek.com how to use vlc with a directx renderer and actually setting it as a desktop background.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to give a url about this in this post ? could any moderator or other experienced wowhead user tell me if I'm allowed to put links in posts ? I mean links to sites that are not directly related to the WOW universe ?
Otherwise go to "howtogeek.com" and type "Enable DreamScene in Any Version of Vista or Windows 7" in the searchbar. At first you see how to enable dreamscene with the standard dreamscene tool.
you have to scroll down a bit to see the VLC mediaplayer workarround !
Edit:
The VLC method uses some considerate resources ! it also states this in the guide.

From what I understand, the only problem with using VLC media player to accomplish what Dreamscene can do, is that VLC actually has to be open. I may be wrong about that though. In comparison, Dreamscene was built by windows and is a part of Aero, so it will use a very small amount of resources on your computer in order to play videos as a desktop wallpaper.

indeed, you are right. but since there might be a problem for some people to have the actual dreamscene running. I thought it might be an alternative if you absolutely want a moving background. It was meant as an last resort tbh with a freeware tool like vlc.
