wow we got pets that give melee/ranged haste o.O! i didnt know that
that changes my list a bit :
cat (mastery)
wolf (crit)
hyena or serpent havent decided yet (melee/ranged hasted)
turtle (50% damage reduc shield, i still prefer it as my tank pet)
spider (rooting, since i prefer silence shot over binding)
stuff ill switch out for when lacking certain buff:
dragonhawk (spell damage debuff)
ravager (physical damage debuff)
sporebat (spell haste buff)

Actually, there are reports of Sporebats providing spell haste buff on live.
I know for certain one of my pets will be a quillen, simply because a brez is too good an option to not have available in 3 seconds for raiding.
What the other 4 will be will differ a bit on the specific raid setup (and the raid group), but certainly a core hound to be able to switch in for one of the spots.
Attack speed or spell haste seems the once least likely to be covered when looking at the buffs, and phys and magic vulnerability in the debuff department - though weakened blows could also be an idea to keep up, so the tanks don't have to worry about it.

i just tamed a sporebat and it had mind quickening passive ability which increased spellhaste by 5%
it seems blizzard just put this one quickly and that they arent done renaming and making it in a pet buff.
but this should make many smaller raids teams happy who might not have had any of the 3 specs who provided it before.

I just went a tamed a Water Strider in Zag. and notice the buffs and dang thats crazy that they have 2 of the 8 buffs. That and I have my Fishing buddy now with there Water Walking Ability.
1) Water Strider
2) S. Beast
3) Sporebat
4) Core Hound/ Quilen
5) Turtle
Are my 5.
I'll have to look at the Different S. Beast to choose which to keep/Get for pvp. I'm thinking Ghostcrawler is still a good choice.

You say the water strider has 2 of the 8 buffs, the spreadsheet I have only shows it as Spell Power (it is out of date already though, as sporebats don't show under spell haste) - what other buff does it have? spell haste?.

didnt waterstride have spell damage/5% crit
edit: it did

Call me a selfish bastard, but I still choose my pet based more on looks, rarity, or in my current situation, sentimental value. (I recently had my IRL pet cat die after 16 years. I was able to tame Mageria, and named her Smokey after my lost friend).
I do try to carry an assortment of pets to help out when I can, but I do not plan to try and cover every possible buff at the expense of dropping some very old friends that have been with me through the years.

well when im soloing i bring what i prefer, but when raiding i try too provide whats missing.
being in a 10man its more important then 25man, but if we got everything covered i pick what i like.

I'd actually say that even in a 25man we can bring a very good and helful pet; a Bear or Carrion bird, for the Weakened Blows Debuff - all tanks now have to go out of their way to apply it (with an aoe attack, that does less single target damage than their primary single target attack), and a hunter pet would keep it up as a matter of course (excepting the need for offtanking, but offtanking doesn't need maximum dps from the tank anyway)
