I did not see this in the Patch Notes

All Cata mining nodes are now gray to a 525 sl. Before the patch Elementium was green, Rich
Elementium was yellow, and Pyrium was orange. While this did not affect any of my plans it gave
me pause. I had planned to make armor for some of my toons to start MoP using Cata Mats and
Recipes. I checked these recipes out in game and saw no changes. But its possible that the
fickle finger of fate will ram us again so don't be surprised if they all turn gray on the 25th.,

I believe it is because when MoP hits, Blizzard does not want a player to fly around Uldum for 30 minutes and be "Realm First! 600 Miner". (Or any other zone that was not released in Mists for that matter.)

You could never do that; this is a myth. You could get 15 skill points from farming the old zones but the overwhelming majority of the skill points still had to be done in the expansion zones.

It's still an easy way to get some quick skill points.

You could get 15 skill points from farming the old zones but the overwhelming majority of the skill points still had to be done in the expansion zones.It's still an easy way to get some quick skill points.Indeed, 15 skill points in 10 minutes of mining in a deserted zone, compared to 10 minutes of searching for a single node in a densely populated zone, just to have some son of a female dog mine it under your nose while you argue with a level 86 mob, with 150k health, over ownership rights to your own blood.

And, I wonder how long the introductory quests and cut scenes will be when you bravely set out to make your hc gear redundant on the new continent. That could take half an hour, maybe more, before you can start mining. Being a few skill points ahead of the pack could mean you can move onto another zone with better quality ore a bit more quickly, to raise disputes with level 88 mobs.
