Personally WSG is one of the harder BG's for me. Since it's a small zone, you are forced to be in close contact with the other team. A locks strength is hit and run. So a small zone like that limits your space.
Now if you PvP with a good group it can be quite fun. Since you are so close to the other team you can spam dots like a madman. So it's give in take.
Tips, well, I would say find creative uses for your portal. Like if you are in the enemy flag room, and there's people in there, go to the top level, set your portal, jump down and grap flag, then port back up. They won't know what happened.
Use your bulky plate teammates as cover. Line up behind that warrior or DK and spam your dots. Or kite enemies into your teammates.
My opinion, it's still my favorite bg.

Other portal use if you want to get the flag is to put it at the second flor of the enemy base. Then you get the flag and go through the tunnel. When the enemy team enter the tunnel behind you, you port to safety above them and run away with them wondering where the hell are you. Then you can give the flag to some faster carry and go back to slow down the enemy defenders.

You can also use your portal above your own graveyard before going for the flag. When you come back, run to that direction and port up when you hit the cliff. The enemy team will have to go through the tunnel or the ramp, giving you some valuable time. But be careful with any DK pulling you back down.

And remember that the tree stumps doesn't break the line of sight for your spells, but any melee will have to go around it to reach you.
