Yor'sahj the Unsleeping hunter question
Return to board index
Ive been having trouble with the Yor'sahj encounter
my problem is in the phase where you have to stack under boss and dps you have to stay stacked or you die and all the adds are on top of you so you cant get far enough away to be able to shoot without dying so do i just set traps and wait? please help thank you (heroic mode).
I don't know about other hunters, but I drop traps and hit him with my staff until it's time to run back out. I also use any buffs I can on my pet to increase its DPS during that time.
You can be at the min, distance for your range attacks. the red slim and black slim can be easily be managed as long as you're close to the healers AOE healing and due to the constants debuff blizz is giving the bosses which currently is at 25%
I run away with the charts on this fight in SV, and if you love your healer's get Glyph of Raptor Strike. Here's how I do it.
The boss does not have a hitbox, which is your savior. Keep an eye on your Black Arrow cooldown. If you're DPSing a blob, don't waste it on a blob. You're goal is to have Explosive Trap ready when you stack.
Come stacking time target the boss, drop an explosive trap under the boss, even if the adds aren't there yet. Raptor Strike every time it's up. Then rotate between multishot, and cobrashot. Lock and Load procs are on the boss every time (just the 2 free ones, one right after the other). Because the boss has no hitbox, you can hit him from anywhere. Multishot hits anything with X yards of your target, which is every single add that spawns.
Feign Death also aggro drops the mobs, so if you get a couple stuck to you (random target switching if I recall), FD to get rid of them.
Trying this technique on the adds won't work because they have a hit box. You must target the boss for this to work.
In addition, to sneak in a little more dps after the stacking phase with 2 sets of adds, I multishot the blob when they're near any 2nd round adds that are still up.
This accomplishes many things.
1. You're still DPSing the boss with autoshots and Explosive Shots.
2. Between Explosive Trap and Multishot shot, you're doing Massive amount of AoE damage.
3. You're healers love you because you're making their job easier. (I've always felt squishy in Cata)
Hyrne is basically right, and that is the only way for a hunter to excel at this encounter. If you are not targeting the boss when you AoE, there is no way to put out good DPS during that phase.
Using a glyphed Raptor Strike is probably overkill though. Even clothies are OK as long as they are getting AoE heals and not eating the green bombs.
I'd suggest that you don't waste GCDs on Raptor Strike, as my healers have never had trouble keeping the raid up as long as everyone is stacked properly. As Dragon Soul is getting nerfed again tonight, the healing will be even easier than it was last week.
Drop explosive and snake trap , dps boss -there is no min range on this boss so you can shoot him standing right under him . If there are adds left when your traps come off CD drop them again .
My Group has never had any trouble getting adds down and have never had trouble healing this encounter even before the nerfs ( tho we had 3 heals then and now either of our two heals can single heal it )

This fight, fortuneately, is like spine where there is no min range component. So long as your group stacks the right way, you can multishot off the boss and roll face on the adds that way.
