Engineering may make some gold finally?
Return to board index
All throughout Cata engineering has been horrible for making gold, at least on my server. where you only get gold from the pets and mount and even then the profit is very minor unless you obtain all the mats.
Now with the new releases from MoP shown in the new article, maybe we will actually get some decent profit?
appears to be non bindable, but does have charges
is BoE so people will all want it for their farming toons.
and then the new rocket mounts. of course
I can see engineering making some gold in MoP. what do you guys think, think your servers will accept these items well for a good profit or that it will be very minor or even negative profits like we see now?
I think they will sell very well --especially the goggles .
I will be getting my guild to farm the mats for them and have our guild engineer make some for each of my guilds official mat farmers

Did you have a shortage of hunters on your server or something?
In addition to the Hog and pets I made a ton of gold on my Engineer selling guns, crossbows and scopes.
My server has what seems to be a very screwed up economy, most of the stuff you can make cost more to make than to sell it. so take
Extreme-Impact Hole Puncher
for example. this come out, truegold was costing about 600g a piece. so thats 4800 + 5 hardened elementium at about 125g a piece so 625 = 5425 + chaos orbs that you had to farm in heroics, and then of course the other little stuff. so cost wise would range around 5-5.5k to make + my time. but only sold well the first week you got the recipe, a couple weeks into the dailies. it sold for about 10k IF you could sell it, and that lasted a week, after that you were extremely lucky to sell it or it would sell at a maximum of like 6k, which means you only make a couple hundred off of it. and it took you a month to sell it. Once Dragon soul came out, it was even harder to sell because people could just do the heroics or lfr and get a weapon way better, and not like either of those is hard, or hard to get carried through.
This happened for each of the guns, and the scopes? well thats still a small profit and sometimes not a profit because of the screwyness of my server and if it sells it only really sells whenever a new content patch comes out. and like with the guns only sell well the first few weeks.
So ya, my server is screwed up unfortunately. We got plenty of hunters on my server. Another thing that sucks is my server has a lower population and on top of that, the horde side consists of a lot of more casual guilds that only ever get a few bosses into the progression, let alone clearing full heroic every week. in fact i think we only have 1 guild horde side that has had a full DS heroic clear. One other guild did, but they switched servers a few weeks ago.
as for Hog? well that sells for about 16k on my server, costs 10-something in vendor mats, and the titansteel is worth several hundred a piece, and all in all comes out at probably close to 14k in cost. so ya 2k profit you ask? well that also takes a month to sell. same kind of thing goes for pets. they sell for a decent profit but take forever to sell. so the profit is almost negligent compared to some of my other professions.
So ya.....TL:DR unfortunately engineering doesnt profit much on my server but i am really hoping it does in MoP, at least a decent profit for a short while i hope.
as far im aware engineers were decent at money making this expac. you could make scopes that hunters would buy (and there never is a shortage of hunters).
guns, well yeah i can agree that those didnt sell that well except when they were relevant (start cata and start firelands).
but one of the biggest money makers would be the companion pets, i have seen many engineers selling
Personal World Destroyer
for several k gold through the expansion. and for the more peace loving folks engi had
De-Weaponized Mechanical Companion
if you compared it too my BS/LW or tailor engineering was pretty much on par with them.
instead of selling scopes i sold leg enchants or belt buckles on them.
and lots of the raid dropped recipes werent even made that much. so they're compareable too engineering made guns/bows.
so all in all, i dnt think engineering had too much too complain compared too most other crafting proffesions.
and considering all the neat stuff their adding in MoP, they might actually get ahead of BS/LW and tailor gold making wise.
if they would beat alchemy or JC, i doubt it. but thats the nature of those 2 crafting proffesions and has been since they were introduced.
ya i agree fel, but realize that the other crafting professions have the vicious pvp gear, which sell really well especially now, when it is all 377 ilvl, and in other words a huge upgrade for anyone just reaching lvl 85, or for anyone trying out pvp. These have been selling very well for me, where i have each of the professions, and have most of the pieces, which sell for several hundred gold a piece, and i can generally sell up to 5 a day. so i can make at least 1-1.5k gold off these, now each profession is different, LW is the best i find because you have so many people using leather and mail, but there is more capital required. generally i sell like 2 leather or mail to each cloth, plate, or ring/necklace. Engineering doesnt have anything in this respect so they do fall behind there. But ya like you said the pets can sell pretty well, unfortunately like i said pets only sell for several hundred on my server not several thousand, though i wish they did.
