Specialisation Names & Class 4th Spec Ideas
Return to board index
Its not necessary for classes that can already manage more than 1 role, however, for the pure DPS classes (Rogues, Hunters, Warlocks, and Mages) I do believe they at some point in the future "should" have a fourth spec that should allow them to at least do a secondary role. Being pigeonholed into a single role forever doesn't feel like much fun to me, everyone should have some manner of choice when it comes to what role to perform.
Especially since many of the pure DPS classes' specs feel very similar.
And that's okay, but a fourth spec, or a change to one of the current three, would go a long way to giving a new feel to some classes.
Even if "pure dps" is here to stay....right now they are all either melee or ranged.
The option to go from ranged to melee would be a welcome one (for me at least).
As a Druid Tank main, I'm living the current 4th spec dream... and it's not an ideal situation. It's clear that Guardian spec is less developed and old-fashioned compared to all other tank specs (not just tank specs but specifically) in the game. It always was basically a rough copy of Warrior with a quick find-replace, block to dodge, but it also suffers from underdeveloped talents with not enough unique Tank ones. It's difficult to draw too many conclusions of course but it
like adding specs does reduce the attention they each get somewhat.
Regarding the idea of 4th specs allowing classes to fulfil every role, personally I want classes to be as distinct and heterogeneous as possible. I think that adding 4th specs and new roles to each class would add to the existing problem of classes kinda getting smooshed together so they all feel alike.
To facilitate those wanting to hybridise their own playstyles I would like to simply see alts be truly supported. Perhaps with unified Garrisons - why not integrate this properly, with players able to create their own Garrison command structure for their characters. Shared legendary progress - it's already slightly quicker on alts, why not just unify it as it isn't compelling gameplay, just busy work, fine the first time through but not the second or third.
Ultimately though, I think a large part of the current difficulty adding alts to endgame is to do with the bad dungeon and heroic progression, and uselessness of dungeons to anyone with an ilvl able to get into LFR - I'd certainly seek to fix that (bring back Valor Points at least).
In lieu of better alting (or in addition to it) I'd also like to see dual specs unlocked to allow several more. Let people play the classes they have to their fullest. Why not?

I agree with everything you said about the 4th spec.
The game in my opinion is crying out for unification.
I feel that faction progress, Garrison progress, even resources should be tied to the account/faction and not the character.
I don't have as much time to play as I used to and I'm sure I am not the only one. Why should I need to do a daily for resources when I have a couple of characters capped? By all means make me grind for resources etc when I've depleted what I've already earned.
The same goes for niggly little things that bother me like the follower armor tokens, The ilvl 615 and 630 ones just accumulate on my main whilst my alts are crying out for them.
It would make it much more enticing to play alts.
I prefer Defender over Warlord for Protection...
but that's just me...
