Heya!
So, I have a guildee who's curious about PvP'ing on his Priest. He just hit 85, and although we all know that Disc tends to be superior, he wants to know about the pros and cons of each spec... I tried google, but it didn't really work out so well... So, could anyone provide a short, simple sweet list of, in 4.3, the pros/cons of each spec in PvP?
Thanks!

I don't pvp regularly these days, but I follow game mechanics enough to give a little insight at least.
Disc
+Has shields, which are the single most healing in a GCD
+Tough to kill. With strong shields, Pain Suppression, and Blessed Resilience, you can be much harder to kill than a similar Holy
+Superior Silence resistance. Strength of Soul allows you to freecast one Greater Heal or Prayer of Healing every 45 seconds, which can make or break an encounter.
+Penance's 'ticks' allow you to treat it as an instant cast, clipping off the cast after 1 or two ticks to avoid interrupts.
-Grace causes a small 'ramp up' in heals, something VERY bad in PVP.
-Atonement looks enticing, but casting attack spells in the same school as your heals in a pvp is a good way to die while accomplishing almost nothing. By extension, Evangelism/Archangel are quite weak in most situations.
-Disc is weak to dispels much more than Holy. Having your Shield dispelled will not allow you to reapply it until Weakened Soul wears off the target, which can take as many as 15 seconds...an eternity in PVP.
Holy
+More powerful Renew makes you able to heal multiple targets without risking Interrupts.
+Chastise gives you an additional escape
+Guardian Spirit can save an ally taking more damage than could possibly be healed
+Holy Word Serenity and Circle of Healing are very powerful, instant, single target and AoE healing respectively. Disc has no way to heal multiple targets instantly at range.
+Body and Soul can give you or an ally some speed to escape in a tight spot, and helps you a lot when fighting Rogues due to the added benefit of allowing you to remove poisons.
-Chakra states prevent you from being flexible when you need to. Don't expect to be able to use Serenity and Sanctuary in quick succession.
-No one will click the lightwell, and will make every effort to move the fight as far from the lightwell as possible.

Why are Attonement, Evangelism/AA, and dispel vulnerability cons for disc? No one takes Atone/AA, and how is Disc weaker to dispels? Like you mention in earlier points, when you're looking to dispel a disc priest you have to get through passive buffs, up to 3 stacks of grace, and up to two stacks of Blessed Resilience; and if they have Pain Suppression up, their dispel resistance increases by 65%
Not to mention Strength of Soul makes you IMMUNE to dispels for the duration as well as the silence immunity. Holy priests have next to nothing to stop opposing teams from dispelling their fear wards, which is kind of a huge deal.

I had to go looking up the apply aura effects to verify whether or not PS sill had it's old dispel resist. I was going by the tooltips before and assumed it got axed. To clarify, yes PS does still grant Dispel resist, tho I stand by my statement in general terms. Arguing for arena, as is clearly your case, has never been something I based general advice around. When people ask for pvp advice, I assume they mean messing around in Battlegrounds, where cooldowns are a much smaller piece of the picture. Constantly loosing your shields and not being able to reapply (especially multiple shields being extremely spendy) I would find to be quite annoying.
On AA/A, as a physical effect, Eva grants zero dispel protection, and procing it requires you to cast a spell with a 2 second cast time. Holy Fire is probably fine, but getting a 5x eva stack in a timely manner simply isn't going to happen against any decent opponent.
Besides, I stated at the start that I don't pvp regularly (raiding takes up most of my play time), I appreciate the desire to clarify any errors, but keep in mind the position I'm coming from mate.

Yeah, it would be annoying, but like I said before, as a Disc Priest you have MORE tools to prevent this than a Holy priest does. (Even your flash heals lower the duration of Weakened Soul so you can get your shields back even faster)

This is inconsequential because if you're speccing for PvP Disc, you DO NOT grab AA/A.

That's fine, all of your other points felt solid to me; I just feel like the cons listed don't actually exist.
