Anyone have any tips on this? It feels like it takes longer than it should to load after I get off a Zeeplin or take a portal. Would settings being lowered help?

Using a portal by yourself can be slower, without access to the Car-pool... Err Portal-pool lane. Try to share rides to minimize time spent in inter-dimensional traffic and minimize your impact on the ethereal environment between.

Load times are based on your computer/connection, so see what you can do on that end.

Addons have a massive impact on the load time. Try disabling some of your larger addons and see if it makes a difference. If it does try and cut down on the number you use. I'm sure you will find some that you can replace with smaller alternatives and many you simply don't need/use anymore.

Yes, it would have a direct effect on loading time.
That may be just it, between my DBM, Lock Timers, Auctioneer, and Mailbox to name several of them.
But something strange happened: noticed that when I was riding someone who was using vial of the sands, the Zepplin trip was much faster. Weird.

It has been my experience addons definately add to my loading screen times so I wanted to point to this excellent little addon called Addon Control Panel found here

it allows you to toggle addons on and off without logging out.
