executive producer Casey Hudson claimed that the DLC didn’t go into development until work on the main game’s core features were complete.
"On ME3, content creators completed the game in January & moved onto the "From Ashes" DLC," he said. "It takes about 3 months from "content complete" to bug-fix, certify, manufacture, and ship game discs. In that time we work on DLC.
"DLC has fast cert and no mfg., so if a team works very hard, they can get a DLC done in time to enjoy it with your 1st playthrough on day 1. On #ME3, content creators completed the game in January & moved onto the "From Ashes" DLC, free w/ the CE or you can buy seperately."
As one of the fans who is not all up in arms about this, this actually makes sense.

Shivering Isles was an EXPANSION rather than a DLC. Which is something that I prefer FAR MORE. Because with an expansion you actually get a really nice money-per-content ratio. With a DLC, you just pay overpriced amounts of money for what is basically at most a couple of extra hours of gameplay.
its absurd.
Bethesda is the only company I trust nowadays with DLC packs. After the way they handles FNV DLC, I think it's safe to assume that I'll buy every single Skyrim DLC there is.
Unlike Bioware, whom I've lost my faith in.

Just finished 2nd playthrough of ME2. If I'm ambitious, I may do another.

Pouring salt on the Prothean wound:
Here's the
voice acting
for the character.
Though to me, his voice isn't too bad. I just expected him to not speak in such a confident tone.

While I think DLC is a rubbish practice I think there are some other companies who also do it 'right', though. Paradox is a good example.

Well, here's some good news.
I have it on good authority that the "prothean" from the DLC WILL show up on the game regardless of whether or not you have the DLC installed.
The DLC just makes him a squadmate, but him, his story, his perspective, and his invaluable insight into prothean lore, will be available to all players REGARDLESS OF VERSION and regardless of if you bought the DLC.
Much better.
Faith in Bioware: restored. (Somewhat...... >.>)

To be honest, I kind of doubted the Prothean wouldn't be present anyway. I didn't think, and still don't, that Bioware would be that evil to every ME-loving nerd out there. The DLC making him a squadmate is a pretty good solution, I think.

yep, a good analogy would be this: Kirahee will be present in the game regardless, but bioware could release a DLC in the future that makes him a squadmate. As a result, without the DLC, you still see kirahee, and talk to him, and so on, but with the DLC, asides from interacting with him, he joins you on your ship.
The Prothean will show up on the game regardless of the DLC, and will give you all the wonderful lore expo that ME-Geeks (Like me) want out of him. Adding the DLC will simply make him take a more "direct" aproach to the reaper war, and join shepard on his/her ship. (I'd asume he'd join your ship as an NPC without the DLC)
This changes the whole thing, because all I wanted out of that prothean (His name is "Javik" BTW) was his lore. Being able to interact with him, talk to him, and get some nice expo to prothean lore. We get all that without the DLC. The DLC just adds an extra squadmate that I'll likely not use anyways. Liara+Garrus = Win. I have no need for something else. Chances are my other squadmates (Tali, Ashley/Kaidan, and specially James) aren't likely to be brought along for missions and such.

Hahaha- I finally dipped into the spoilers section on the official forums. People are raging about supposed leaks and spoilers, and I find it so funny. I love a gaming community where people don't like the plot, so they demand "happier ending" DLC's and blame the fact that they don't like the story on "lazy writers".
Not going to post spoilers, but I think I will be quite satisfied with the game.

I've been watching character customisation demos and the hair options in particular seem a bit boring. :(

ElhonnaDS
Hopefully there will be mods for the hair, then. The character creators in Mass Effect games have been pretty sad for female toons :( My nose is always too big, and most of the eyes looks like they were stuck on by someone who was blindfolded and just happy if they hit above the nose somewhere.

I know, if I play I want to be able to make a pretty toon! >:( I'm not asking for much... maybe a few medium and long hair options and quter faces. :| Male!Shep has the similar hair problems - he's either shaved or balding.

Well, keep in mind we are military- we have to keep the hair above the collar.

Pffffffffffft. I didn't see Princess Leia getting her hair shaved off because it was down her back! UNACCEPTABLE!

I'm trying to remember what rank you have to be promoted from to reach "Princess" in the US army.
Also, if I remember correctly, in every scene but one she had her hair wrapped up tight in braids or buns to hold it close to her scalp and not cause a combat hazard. The only time I saw long hair on her was when the was letting the e-woks play with it. So, unless there is a slumber party mission with Liara and Kasumi, I am going to assume that even a long haired shep would have a bun or something similar (which I believe they have).

I mean, longer pony tails and french braids and stuff aren't exactly going to be much of an issue, surely. >.> And Lightning had long hair! (Completely different, I know. But still. I WANT A PINK AFRO.)

I am tempted to dabble into said spoilers but i wont.
As it is, I've already spoiled enough of the plot for myself with the demo and some scraps of info I've been able to dig out. Not gonna spoil the grandeouse ending like that.
Though I'll be perfectly honest here: I have NO IDEA how the hell are we gonna defeat the reapers. Looking back at ME1, it took the combined efforts of the asari fleet, the turian fleet, and the human fleet to take down 1 REAPER, just 1!
in ME3, there's enough reapers to "Darken the skies of every world" so how the heck are we gonna defeat those?
Granted, not all reapers are the same juggernauts as sovereign, they come in different sizes and such, but THERE ARE plenty of super-sized reapers out there to wipe the floor with every fleet on the galaxy put together.
The one advantage humanity has, is that the turians reverse-engineered the Reaper weapons installed on Sovereing, and designed the Thannix Cannon from them. A cannon that fires a stream of liquid metal AT RELATIVISTIC SPEEDS. Powerful enough to take down a collector ship on one shot, I'm betting it will also kill a reaper with fewer shots than the entire volley it took to take down sovereing.
We can safely asume every single turian ship is outfitted with those, and with the alliance getting their hands on the cerberus-built Normandy SR-2, then its also safe to asume the alliance fleet is outfitted with those. So that will even the odds a little bit, but its still against us very much.

Ohh and regarding the hair, that has been a problem on all the ME games so far. They all look like they're made of plastic. ME3 improved the hair considerably, and unlike ME2, you CAN customize the look of an imported shepard. So you just have to stomach a shep with plastic hair for the first 2 games, then finnaly get a decent hair on the third one.
and Elhonna, sorry to break this to ya, but realistic hairstyles on the military has never been a part of the ME universe.
Just check out miranda. I can't posibly imagine a more impractical get-up for someone who's suposed to be a soldier.
A: high heels. Jesus-dear-lord-christ, HIGH HEELS. Its hard enough to walk in those darned things (not to mention what they can do to your back if you try to stand on them for extended periods of time) but RUN AND FIGHT IN THOSE? Yeah, not buying that.
B: Body-tight spandex suit.
So........... while on the first game everyone was using ARMOR, on the sequel, everyone (or almost everyone, grunt, tali, garrus, zaheed, Legion, and maybe Mordin) was using just regular clothes that offered absolutely no protection at all. Jack goes topless (covered by barely a few belts above the waist) Jacob (like miranda) just dons a spandex suit (With the camera conspicuously focused on either his abs or buttocks) Samara/Morinth also dons a spandex suit (With an impossibly low V-line showing almost all her bewbs) Thane goes with a leather trenchcoat that reveals his chest, and Kasumi wears a classical burglar cat-suit.
None of those outfits are practical, or even remotely safe to wear in combat, heck, the high heels alone (present for Miranda, Samara, and Kasumi) are a safety hazzard enough (Ever tried running through dangerous un-even ground on HIGH HEELS?) but to go into open warfare and THE VACUUM OF SPACE with a simple spandex outfit, or worst, topless? Crazy.
C: Long long hair, this one applies just to miranda, as Jack is shaved, and Kasumi has enough presence of mind to at least hide her hair under her cloak.
From what I've seen regarding the desing of Ashley (Biggest example of "marine girl" i've seen) they aint aiming for realism here. One of her outfits includes a mini skirt. Plus we've seen her hair is now long and tied down.
