its just some people's attitude, some are tanks others are dps/healers. long story short they will never admit their own mistakes and always blame someone else. and they often come in pairs.
fun thing i learned here on Wowhead and which actually works quite often.
if there is more then one of this kind of person in the group, and you notice that their average chat message style is very poor. do this: put up a votekick for the most annoying one saying : sucky *role* kick that noob ! (sometimes adding your name)
and BOOM they kicked the other person, watch them go totally clueless and become silent. so far worked for me in 75% of the cases. making many runs far more enjoyable. (and no i dnt do this too grief others, that dont deserve this)

The very best thing you can do if you want a super smooth run (and possibly multiple runs with the same group) is to talk in Party chat. As soon as you get into the group, say Hi, mention you are new to healing if you want, and be polite. People are much less likely to flip out on someone who they've been talking to already.
And try not to speak in generalities. If a tank is a bit of a prick, it's because he needs to deal with bad players all the time. A tank actually needs to know what he's doing, while any DPS can just herpaderp their way through by tab targeting and clicking buttons.

I think you might be over reacting a little bit after having a bad druid tank carianna, but in some respects your right.
I am a tank, and there are times where I think the world revolves around me. Its not always our fault. Tanks start the pulls, they lead the group. Its happened to me a couple of times where I will zone out after about an hour of tanking, and just keep pulling. This one time, I pulled a group, with out even realizing that my healer went back to check on something. I died, group wiped. My first thought was, ! WTF where were my heals, but then I saw that he had typed "brb repairs" and I didn't even see it.
Anyways, all I'm saying is that a tank sets the pace, and sometimes that can absorb the person into thinking they are the most important in every way.
Hope you get better tanks,
Cheers,
Hat

one reason: tanks know they can get away with it.
They know (or think they know :) ) they won't get kicked no matter how rude they are, simply because it means a long queue for the rest of the team, when they themselves can queue and have a near instant new dungeon.
As you get closer to 85, this gets even worse as a lot of people who tank in random groups to level and gain experience will tank guild groups exclusively once they reach higher levels, so the number of tanks available for random groups decreases, making queues for especially dps extremely long (I've had to wait for over an hour sometimes).
As you say, it's not all tank, but enough (as a percentage) to give them all a very bad name.

simply because it means a long queue for the rest of the team not really, you'd be at the front of the queue, the waits are never really long since the bonus bag was introduced and theres a good chance you actually have a dps who can tank trash during the downtime (even if the dps doesnt know it yet)
when they themselves can queue and have a near instant new dungeon but the dungeon will likely be fresh and their progression reset

I enjoy $%^&ing with arrogant tanks. I normally run randoms with at least one or two other guildies which basically gives us control over who we have in our group. We are all geared and experienced so we know whats good and bad, we don't mind if a tank is undergeared, uncertain about pulls or just slow but as soon as a tank gets uppity its game over for them.
My favourite instance was a ZG run, the tank was moaning the entire way around for basically no reason at all and using extremely offensive words like "#$%got" etc. I was properly raging in /g but I didn't say anything to him, anyway we decided that we couldn't allow this sort of behaviour to be rewarded so we continued to clear all the bosses up to Jin'do and just as he's running up to pull Jin'do we kick him. He must have gone apoplectic because we knew he was only in it to grind VP. Anyway he got what he deserved plus it felt so good to waste his time like that.
Theres only one real rule in warcraft which you should abide to imho - do not be an #$%^&*!.

I've experienced that myself, a lot. Tank leaves, rest of the group has a 20m+ wait for a new tank.
You're not put at the front of the queue, looks like (unlike when someone declines an invite, THAT does put you at the front).
when they themselves can queue and have a near instant new dungeon but the dungeon will likely be fresh and their progression reset
Mostly they leave after the first boss anyway (if not sooner, I've seen tanks leave simply because the random dungeon they got wasn't the one they wanted. Zone in, quit team 2 seconds later.

Well maybe it's because if a tank screws up just once they get yelled at until they leave/end while the dps can stand in whatever they feel like...

Having tanked before, I can say this. Being a tank is like being the glue which holds your team together. It's a leadership position, and a more stressful one. Combine the stress with having power over the group, and you often get tanks who will abuse their power. This is just my two copper on the situation.

I dunno. Often, when playing on my paladin, and we kick a tank, we get a new one within a few seconds. A group that's already underway should have higher priority over a group that hasn't started yet.

^ This a thousand times!
As a DPS from way back (now tanking as I cant stand DPS wait times anymore), I used to drop a
Fish Feast
at the start of a Heroic and said 'Hi'.
Now, when I tank, I make a point of chatting directly to the Healer encouraging them to call out if they need to stop.
I wouldn't say that most tanks have attitude, that can be any class anytime.

that
bad (though in some cases close)
but blizz has long fixed that and it hasn't happened any time recently
You're not put at the front of the queue, looks like (unlike when someone declines an invite, THAT does put you at the front). you most certainly are, groups in progress are put at the front of the queue
it's been that way since the system was released
I've seen tanks leave simply because the random dungeon they got wasn't the one they wanted. Zone in, quit team 2 seconds later.i've seen dps and healers leave for the same reason
hell, i've left for that reason
we would all get the deserter debuff however, tanks aren't immune from it

OP, Have you considered that maybe the tank role itself jsut attracts people who already have an attitude?
Personally, as a tank, I have an attitude. And honestly, sometimes I enjoy being an ass to other people. But when people in this game act like they know everything about everything, yet do no perform well, that's when I let my attitude out to play.
