But addons are not tools.
A hammer is a tool. You use it to pound in a nail. The game gives you the hammer.
Addons are a machine that puts the nail in for you; ignoring the hammer entirely.
Actually, an add-on is more of a bit of extra muscle in the arm that holds the hammer, if we're using metaphors.
Not quite. An add-on gives the hammer a longer handle. This allows the head to gain more momentum when you swing the hammer (each keypress is more potent because it is more accurately timed), and requires less effort to do so (add-ons give their data in a much more easy to read, customisable format).

Doesn't mean that every player knows the important and detailed facts about their class.
Therefore you know nothing about the intricacies of a mage. Just because I know very little about a class doesn't mean I'm going to QQ about them being better then I am at a certain aspect of the game.
Yeah sure. I know nothing about the intricacies of mages and I QQ. Right.
well you are only fooling yourself. I see no point to discuss this with you anymore since you're just obsessive about the attitude of... *OH now I will quote her post and I WILL beat her with my response = I WIN!*

You're not discussing anything, you're only saying that mages are OP and should be nerfed and how arcane is such an easy spec. Yet if you actually played one at level cap in a raid you would know there is more then just spamming arcane blast.
And I have no idea of where you got the idea about I win after I quote you. I'm just trying to point counter arguments to yours. If you would look at the poll, it seems that 56 of the people that voted seem mages are fine. I can't be the only one to think that way and I doubt all 56 of those play a mage.
But if you feel that way then I'll just leave with you not wanting to discuss anything other then the fact that you believe you are right without even playing a class.

This comment is just nonsense. Addons doesn't do stuff for you, and dot-tracking addons specifically only present information
already present in the game
in a much clearer fashion. Can you play without them? Sure you can, if you enjoy tracking your own dots in a sea of other debuffs. The information is there, the addon just makes it clearer. It doesn't cast anything for you, which is what you're implying.

I think the "Your opinion" response is as detrimental to a thread as Godwin. It's a pointless response. Of course it's an opinion. Everything posted on a subject like this is an opinion. That response is meaningless drivel.

An d yet, in the past couple months, it has been thrown at me repeatedly.

That's probably because you post just your opinion without any facts to back it up.

No, per game architecture. Addons are interpreted by core game code, and the game strictly limits what they can and can't do. Further, look in you game's addon directory and you'll find that the game's core UI is all in there exactly the way 3rd party addons are implemented. Sorry if this is blowing your mind, but the difference between the "real UI" and addons is that one is made by Blizzard and one isn't. What they can or can't do does not change.

Arcane mages are fine Fire mages are fine BUT WHEN A DAMN FROST MAGE STICKS ME IN PLACE FOR 35 DAMN SECONDS AND IS BEATING ON ME WITH 25K NONSTOP CRITS I DON'T LIKE IT.
also I wish they would leave melee range they sit on top of me like I was a couch. can't do $%^& to get out of freezes as a hunter other than pop trink then get locked down RIGHT away.

That isn't what I'm talking about.
Addons make the game easier. Sort of like mods to other games which give you stronger guns or whatever. I've seen halo mods brough online that make winning a joke, similiar to how addons can make classes like Spriests much easier to play.
Thus, like mods, addons are 'playing the game for you' by taking all the challange away.

Incorrect? As none of the mods automate any of your skills or spells; the most they do is keep track of timers(for those who need it), let you know when something is about to kill you(DBM), keeps track of information(recount and others) and so on.
They don't bot the game for you; and while you may hate addons, lots don't.

But they make it so you don't have to put forth as much effort.
Thus, they are "playing the game for you", or at least a portion of it.

Okay, I call bull@#$% on that: I have a friend who religiously watches his timers, to make sure he always get's the best of his dps. And sure you have DBM warning you of what's coming, but if you don't move your slow ass, you'll die to the effect.
And no, they aren't playing the game for you....at all: Because again, and say it with me now: They Do Not Automate The Game.

That depends on how you define 'playing the game for you'. Everyone here is using Blizz's explination of botting your character. In my opinion, it means anything which makes the game easier than it normally is.
And yes, I use addons. I don't use anything class-specific. I use recount, Total RP 2, and healbot. That is it.
I don't like using them, but I couldn't remain competitive without them; as I am not skilled enough. (TRP2 doesn't really matter in this arguement... meh...)

Since pretty much everyone else disagrees with your definition....gonna say it's probably not the correct one in this case.
