*SPOILERS* Don't feel like tagging, so just don't read if you haven't seen the episode.
Ok, a few problems I had with the way they handled the Red Wedding. First, I feel like showing the guy stab whatshername in the stomach like a dozen times was a bit over the top. Second, they really should have started the massacre
while
the Rains of Castemere was playing. That first arrow should have fired as soon as Cat's eyes widened after she heard the song begin.
Also the way Robb died was completely wrong. It would have been better if you had a few of his bannermen trying to protect him behind a table like in the book. When Roose just sort of pops on screen and stabs him, its too anticlimactic. It was better the first way when he walks up and stabs Robb while he was kneeling. He even messed up the line. "Jamie Lannister sends his regards." Obviously going to be important last words when Jamie comes face to face with UnCatlyn in the next book.
They've been building this scene up since we heard Tywin sing after the Blackwater, and IMO they completely butchered it, no pun intended. This entire season has been @#$%. The decision to split the seasons up, rather than just have a 13-14 episode single season was stupid, and they completely @#$%ed up the climax.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##Please do.

eh, I'm interested in seeing how things pan out from all the changes they've made from the books.
I'm also very interested in seeing peoples reactions.

First of all "dude", !@#$ Robb and his mother too, I couldn't give less of a $%^& that either of them died. If I feel bad for anybody it's his people, in the end this is really their tragedy.
Second, it's a free forum. If you wan't to see a bunch of fanboys like yourself just mindlessly agree that it's the greatest show ever and the writers can do no wrong, go post somewhere else. They screwed up what is not only one of my favorite scenes, but one of the most important ones in the entire series. So yea, I have every right to complain about it.

That's the primary reason why I haven't watched any of GoT yet - I don't want to a show to detract from what I imagined the scenes to be like from reading the books.

Eh, treat them as two separate continuities; that's what I do for the Walking Dead.
Sadly though, I cannot do that for World War Z....

The scene was fine. Stop over scrutinizing something because it didn't match what you imagined it would be.

No, if I think something's garbage I'm going to call it out. This is one of the most important scenes in the series, and I think they could have done it better. And a series defining moment shouldn't be handled so that people describe it as "fine".
EDIT: I have no problem with something being different than the original btw, but when something is inferior to the original I will point it out.

You only think it's garbage because it didn't live up to what you thought it should be. You are complaining about everything in the scene. Even the minute details about when the music started and the first shot should have happened.
I haven't read the books, and I'm not sure when/if I will, but I was still surprised by what happened.

You can say that Episode 1/2 of Star Wars was garbage because it didn't live up to what you thought it should be, but that doesn't stop it from being garbage.
Ryjacork's issue is that the scene itself was done in an anti-climactic way, that doesn't do justice to how this was built up and how it fits in to the whole GoT series, not that it doesn't match the book. If it doesn't match the book and it adds to the drama and the story, that's great, as ArgentSun pointed out in the first page. If it doesn't match the book and makes it more underwhelming, well, it might have still been a tear jerker, but it doesn't mean it couldn't have been better.

No, I think it was garbage because they have been bogging this entire season down with stupid filler conversations about Podd and Gendry. They've been dragging the story out to make one book fit two seasons. Remember it took Jon and entire episode just to climb the wall? And this is a story that already suffers from the dragging issues and lack of movement. Google Meereen if you wanna know what I'm talking about.
Add to that the fact that they nixed any character development for all of the wildings besides Ygritte. Tormund Giantsbane and Mance Rayder have had maybe a few minutes of screen time each.
Now all season I've been putting up with this because I reasoned that the Red Wedding at least would be a great finale. But it really hasn't lived up to any of my expectations. Even if I had never read the book and was basing this solely on the show, I would still have many of the same problems.
They'be been building up the Rains of Castamere since last season. They've referenced it at least twice this season. they should have played it during the massacre, it would have made for a more memorable scene. Also I felt like Roose poping on screen to stab Robb and the random Frey stabbing his wife was almost cartoonish. Robb's death is the climax of the scene, and the eradication of house Stark has been the long term goal of house Bolton. It would have been more dramatic to show Roose approaching him before stabbing him, and at the very least don't just have him vanish off screen again the next second.
I really haven't been happy with this entire season. It would have been smarter if they just made it a single 13-14 episode season. I won't even mention the problems with the child actors aging. At the current pace the girl who plays Arya is going to be in her 20s by the time the show catches up with the books.

Since they've already aged all of the kids anyways....

Mkay, that's your opinion. I still thought it was a good episode. Just like how I think SW Episode 1/2 were good.

That's just a problem you face when doing adaptations like that. Unless you make them re-cast every year so the characters stay the same age.

Not enough they didn't. And splitting the single story up into two seasons only exacerbates the problem.
I think SW Episode 1/2 were good.
Then you have an extremely low threshold for what constitutes "good" and I'm not arguing with you about quality anymore.

Not my fault that I watch shows/movies to enjoy them, and not split hairs about details.
And my point about the children actors still stands.

I would rather have standards for entertainment that prevents me from enjoying some things, than be able to mindlessly swallow whatever drivel is set in front of me.
