Because you can tell almost straight away who is a guy and who isn't.
Ever been to Thailand?
And no you cannot, gamers are gamers, I spend months in a guild assuming a person was a male, going by the speech pattern, the jokes, the general cussing :)
I and a few others were surprised when we started to use vent that our badass, tough talking tank was a diminutive voiced female.
Best tank I ever played with.
I don't exactly find that surprising. I knew a tank on my realm who was like that as well.

I have had this before, and it happens a lot more when I'm somehow between levels 10-20.
Once in Westfall, a human paladin rode by my mage before turning back, dismounting, and exclaiming "WOW YOU"RE HAWT!". Too bad they didn't have passenger mounts back in the day, or I'd have asked for a ride.
Another time, in Tranquillen, a belf paladin followed my hunter around for like half an hour, trying earnestly to chat her up. My wife was rather amused, and I didn't quite have the heart to tell the kid I wasn't this hot belf chick in real life.

I'm a guy who plays all male toons except for my main, and it's never happened to me.
Might be the fact that she's an undead?

Female Orcs never get any love either.

I haven't gotten any random attention on my female characters, nor have I noticed any difference in whether I get challenged to duels depending on whether I'm playing male or female. I don't know why some people get random flirting or requests to cyber on female characters and others don't. Tis a mystery of the game.

I play both male and female characters. Usually, this stuff never happens, male or female. But it happens quite often on my female BE. People start to emote kiss, hug, lick and such. Strangely enough, 95% of those are other female characters and 90% of those again are draenei. oO

Im a female that mainly plays female toons. I have several characters, at least one of each race.
On my draenai, over the time it took to raise her up, she got a ton of flirts, kisses, and some cute romantic rping going on with horde male toons. Cute, as in playing with toys and robot fights, and even dueling other alliance chars for my "honor". First thing when I got to outland, some tauren druid helped kill a bunch of mobs around me, since I kept dying. Id usually return the favor by MCing/Forting them.
On the flip side, my female gnome and dwarf toons were harassed many times. Ive been called "fatass" from alliance players, and repeatedly ganked, stalked and camped by horde. I guess people really, really hate short fat women.
Ive started some male toons, my 80 shaman is a draenai male, who I dress head to toe in pink, and flirt with every male toon I see. Its childishly hilarious for me.

It's even funnier when they completely over the top flip out at you. It becomes very apparent very quickly whose an ignorant homophobe.
On the Moon Guard server one of my friends would do this same thing, prancing around goldshire playing a male human in a dress. Some people laughed, some ignored him, and some got so horribly offended that it was almost scary.

I'm a girl who plays female characters and I practically never get hit on like that, even though I've played almost since release. I think that may also have to do with the fact that I tell more crude jokes than any guys I know. But that's my schtick and it seems to help with unwanted attention.
