ok, my question;
with the changes in 4.0.1 as a new warlock, what is a better demon to lvl with.
A voidwalker? or a felgaurd?

The first thing you get when choosing demo as your spec is the Felguard. What do you think yourself? :p
Using the voidwalker when you get the Felguard is like still using Claw when you get Mangle as a feral druid.

Well just remember that the abilities we get are former 51p skills. Aka very good so it would be foolish not to use them to their full extend
^exactly. Except they were 41 point skills. The 51 point skills are (for most specs anyways) the current 31 point talents.
You may be new to locks, but not new to 4.0.1 (I notice your main is a warrior). So you KNOW that the ability you get upon choosing a spec is pretty much mandatory (although, looking at Intimidation for BM hunters ...) If I were new, and I received a new pet when choosing a certain spec, I would not be in doubt. You get a new pet for a reason, i.e. to use it.

OK, kneels down and puts head on block.
I would nornally consider myself to pick stuff up reasonably quickly, but for some reason either I'm being very thick, or, probably extremely thick.
Can someone explain precisely what soulswap does, and when I would want to use it, in terms for a thickie. I just can't see why I need it, trash mobs normally=aoe, boss normally=single target, with no mob to swap with.

badbee, that's the kind of methods blizz will be trying to steer us away from in cata. We are going to be doing alot more single target killing in dungeons, like we do in Halls of Reflection now, then we have in wrath. So soulswap is to make sure afflic's dps keeps up with everyone else's in this new age of actually having to think about what you are doing rather than just mindlessly spamming Seed.
Think about it like Sethek Halls (i think that's how to spell it...) from TBC, where there are those damn bird things who can fear your whole group. In cata we would fear them first so they can't do their fear on us, but then if we AoE the damage will hit them and break that fear, meaning our effort was wasted. Hence more single target killing.

Thank you, it all now makes perfect sense lol
Actually looking forward to raiding the way you're describing again, and a bit more lateral thinking may (unlikely but still) have brought me to that conclusion.
For some reason, with all the changes, and getting used to new things I just seemed to have a mental block, and just kept looking for reasons to use it now, and never finding any lol.
Thanks again.

i feel a little bad that people posting to this thread often feel that they ought to be apologetic for asking questions, no doubt because they're seen me or others reacting badly to people making new threads for similarly small or relatively unimportant questions.
i want to reassure people that this thread is an excellent place to ask those questions. if you've had a look around and didn't find an answer then people will be more than happy to point you in the right direction or answer the question if it actually isn't covered elsewhere. it's really just the forum clutter of a hundred new threads asking simple/covered questions every day that we want to reduce.

It's cheaper on in game gold. Gold that you can get from doing one random dungeon. So no I havn't. I have thought about rolling a new lock to try out the new races in cata though.

agreed, that's a terrible reason to level another warlock. there are good reasons (the best one being "because you want to") but to save yourself a maximum of 50 gold when you want to use a third spec?
if you were to spend the same amount of time that you would spend levelling and gearing a new warlock on making gold you would not only have enough gold to respec as often as you want but you'd have enough to get yourself a bike ^_^ (even at a low estimate for gold/hour and a high estimate for xp/hour)

Two simple and probably stupid question:
1. Should I mostly be using nuke spells while in Metamorphosis stance and not using any GCD spells?
* Background: back in the 3.3 days I read on some forums where the Locks said cast all your GCD spells before Meta and hit 'em with your main nukes while in Meta. Which kinda made sense when you had Curse of Doom and Life Tap. But I ignored the advice with Corruption because back then Corruption spawned Molten Core.
* Currently I've been (and don't shoot me for this) doing Curse of the Elements, Corruption, Bane of Doom, Summon Doomguard and then doing Meta (Immolate, Hand of Gul'dan, Soulburn+Soulfire, Shadow Bolt etc) and then refreshing Corruption. I did this because casting all those GCD spells while in Meta took 4 seconds off of my 36 second Meta form.
So would you advise to just do: Curse of the Elements, Meta (and then cast all the rest of my spells even though they have a GCD and take the precious 1 second off of my casting while I'm in the 36 seconds Meta stance?
Maybe Mastery for Demo is why we'd want to apply all the proper spells in our bag when in Meta (e.g. you'll want to cast Bane of Doom in Meta because now it grants +20% damage). Am I answering my own question? :)
2. Any idea when they will get a Simcraft available for 4.0.1? How are the folks at Elitistjerks and here getting their data?

1)
when you say GCD spells i'm assuming you mean instant spells and there really is no difference between a corruption that is instant but uses a full GCD before you can cast something else and a (baned) immolate that takes the same time as a GCD to cast but does it with a cast time.
the important consideration previously and one that is still important to day is that you don't want to waste time during meta casting spells that don't do damage. this means make sure you've got full mana before hitting meta so you don't need to tap and it means making sure CoE is up before meta and will last the full duration.
now, contrary to what you were told, since out DoTs spells have much higher DPET than our nukes this means that you DEFINITELY wanted and still want to cast things like CoD/BoD during meta because a 20% increase in damage to such a high DPET ability is far greater than a 20% increase to a shadow bolt. the same is true of all our DoTs and they have the benefit of ticking at the greater damage even after meta has run out.
i really can't stress enough that you were given some bad advice there. a percentage damage increase is best used with your highest damage abilities meaning nukes provide the least benefit from meta. also, there is no such thing as "GCD abilities" and making a distinction like that probably isn't helping you out.
2)
the simcraft developers have a working version of the program that isn't ready for general release yet. check the simcraft sticky for updates, as soon as something changes someone will post there.

If you cast a BoD at the last second of Metamorphosis, will it tick for 20% more damage throughout the whole duration?

Stupid Question Redux:
1. I've seen of the FAQ's forum that wowhead is maintaining +20 intellect for all red gem slots on gear. Patch 4.0.1 has been out for a while now and new information is coming forward. Forums are now suggesting that Haste is the prime attribute for Demo. So I went and took all my +20 int gems and replaced them with +10 int and +10 haste. I also switched all yellow slots to +20 haste. The result?
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Windrunner&cn=Hawkmune
Got this information from mmo-champions:
http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/776010-Demonology-Warlock-4.0.1-Guide
I realize that I'm just below the ideal 1405 haste mark. (I have my eyes on some gear upgrades that should soon put me there). Anyway, am I headed in the right direction with foregoing +20 int with less int and more haste?
Ok, I've read the previous page on this post and I think I have my answer for this question. I believe I should continue striving for 1405(6) Haste.
2. Soulburn + Soulfire: I don't automatically hit this when in Meta form. I got 36 seconds to play with while in Meta form and I usually wait for my Tier 10 set to proc (+10% more damage for 10 seconds) before I hit the SB+SF macro. If I never get the Tier 10 procs during Meta, then just before Meta is over then I'll spam this macro.
Is this something where you roll your eyes and say /meh. Or is this a good use of waiting for gear procs? I have always just ignored the gear procs and said "so what. I'm always casting anyway. So what do I care?" But again, there are locks out there saying things like you're HIGH if you aren't tracking this stuff and reacting to it.
