The first half.

wow, holy leveling is strictly for dungeon healing only. of course its going to take forever to level when your spec'd in healing and not damadge. i have a 30 disc priest and its no thard to get the mana regen. when all the mobs are at low health just spam holy nova and you will get it.
Oh dear ...

It's best to just level whatever tree you like and interests you You'll be able to heal dungeons best with Disc and Holy, and even shadow for that matter (though not as easily).
I personally think that Disc has way less downtime than any holy build, both for solo-questing or healing dungeons, and is better for any BG pvping you are doing along the way. Just my opinion after trying both (though that was before they changed the Smite glyph, which could make holy more competative, if not ridiculously boring spam-botting).

Wait... what?
What has Holy Nova even got to do with mana conservation? The only thing I can think of is procs from your BoA trinkets returning tons of mana when they proc off HN kills... Kills you'd still get if you were finishing those mobs with your wand. Kills which will also proc Spirit Tap if you're specced into it, which the Energizer spec is.
Also, what has "Holy" got to do with the Energizer spec? It's not a Holy spec, it's a Hybrid spec, just look at how the points are spent, seriously... I fail to understand how a build based on Smiting can be considered a "healing spec". Sure, it will get the job done healing in instances, but it will also get the job done DPSing in Arenas, or soloing quests, or farming BGs... Anyone claiming otherwise either didn't try the spec or didn't play it right, in either case, their opinion is irrelevant. No offense meant.
Furthermore, one could argue that Discipline is also a healing spec which shouldn't be used for solo leveling (a.k.a. questing), but like razzem wisely pointed out, everyone should be using whichever spec they enjoy playing the most. Energizer is only an option among many other options.

I remember levelling my priest, back in '07, using something similar to the Energizer™ spec. I was in my level 20's, in Hillsbrad Foothills. These two alliance buggers (one a mage, the other a warrior) the same level as me started to pick a fight with me and chase around the zone. Not only did I manage to survive using only PW:S and Renew, but I killed them off one at a time using SW:Pain, DP (or whatever the undead priest racial was at the time), the occasional Holy Fire and once I got them on the run, Smite.
I had barely taken a scratch of damage and by kiting them I managed to stay out of range of the mage's long casts and kept the warrior in combat so he couldn't charge. It's one of the best memories I have about levelling my priest. Kiting and peeling was easy enough with Psychic Scream, and PW:S saved my skin multiple times. When it was all over it had taken me about 4-5 minutes of dotting, hotting and kiting. And this was all before heirlooms were part of the game.
The point is: levelling as Holy has been viable for a loooooong time. R.I.P. Energizer™ spec in 4.0.1.

I would be interested to hear your methods of leveling. Currently I am leveling a holy priest and while I do OOM often, there are no blockades to my leveling speed. Non-Shadow priests absolutely SUCK at questing/grinding, but I level very fast in dungeons/PvP which is all I care for.
Easy... Holy Fire -> Smite -> Smite -> Smite -> Wand -> Loot -> Rinse -> Repeat.
Using that rotation, you never stop to drink, since Spirit Tap will give you more mana back than you used to cast those 4 spells to begin with. Its DPS also compares with what a Shadow Priest will be able to do, pre-Shadowform and pre-VT.
Obviously, gearing up in (enchanted) BoAs also helps a lot, but that's also true for every other class and spec, so irrelevant, in my opinion.
P.S. ever looked at disc talents up to at least 40 or so? Absolute fail.
Hum, yeah, that's why the first thing the Energizer spec recommends you grab is the Spirit Tap talent, from Shadow, then Holy Spec., Divine Fury, Healing Focus and Searing Pain, all from the Holy tree. You only begin to spend points in Discipline if you have issues with mana, generally if you run (heal) more Instances than you solo.
In any case, Shadow talents, pre-40 also "fail"... Shadowform, Shadow Power, Twisted Faith and Vampiric Touch being the "good" talents in that spec. From a leveling point of view, Holy and Shadow are trees which will directly buff your efficiency, while the Discipline tree is a utility tree that will generally help more with survivability and sustainability... The fail here is when someone doesn't understand the exact purpose of things, then whine when they can't make it work, by doing it wrong.

In my imagination, Panik8 is the Hunter S. Thompson of the Priest forums. Well written and outspoken and knows how to eloquently tell people that they're wrong.

Smite spec is about the equivilant of a "shockadin" spec...nuff said.
Really? I didn't know Shockadin spec was the most efficient spec to level a Paladin up to level 50? Care to explain how one should be using a Shockadin spec to level?

LOLsmite is 85% LOL and 90% smite. But I wonder what it will be like without spirit tap in 4.0.1.
