Asakawaaaaaa. halp.
So I understand how to use the class=mouseover for maps on OBJECT links.
Can it be done for others? Like Zone/Item/etc? wowhead pages have maps, but I can't get the mouseover maps to work for them (ex: Serpentshrine Cavern ZONE link does not give a mouseover map).
my syntax looks like this:
Fish up
The Lurker Below
from the
Strange Pool
in
Serpentshrine Cavern
.
This is the page I'm trying to link for Serpentshrine Cavern:
Serpentshrine Cavern
Thank you!

Mishii, I believe it is only available with objects. With some extra coding, you can get the same effect:
Serpentshrine Cavern
You'll need to upload an image, rather than use map code, but the effect is the same.
code:
Serpentshrine Cavern

Ah, thank you!
I'll see if I can get that to work with what I'm doing.
Otherwise I just discovered the ?maps and options, and am experimenting with pins. Takes up a bit more room but I think I'll manage.

Is the heading exclusion from ToC still working?
This guide
suggests that you can exclude certain headings from showing up in the Table of Contents with an extra parameter like:
Un-linked Subsection
I'm writing a guide here but I just can't get that to work. Every heading still gets listed to the ToC in the preview.

Works okay here.
1
-1
-2
-3
2
3
looks like:
1
-1
-2
-3
2
3
You can see the 3s are showing in the content but are hidden from the ToC. Both H2 and H3 are working there. If you're not seeing that work the same way in your guide then you could post the guide number (from the URL) here and I or another moderator can take a look at it in situ.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

I think my problem was that I used the H3-tags to wrap zone links within tabbed content which somehow borked the ToC. But I used an alternative formatting to replace headings so I'm good now. Thanks anyway tho! :)

I'd suggest creating a mouseover for the NPC instead.
You need to double click on the big map for the NPC (Lurker Below). The URL is:
http://www.wowhead.com/npc=21217#map:3607.1
This contains too much information for the mouseover, so ignore 3607.1.
Example 1: Mouseover of map with NPC locations.
Fish up
The Lurker Below
from the
Strange Pool
in
Serpentshrine Cavern
.
Code:
Fish up \
The Lurker Below
from the \
Strange Pool
in \
Serpentshrine Cavern\
.
Example 2: Mouseover of NPC map plus mouseover of NPC screenshot.
If you copy & paste the Code below into your Guide Editing page you'll see a screenshot when you mouseover the words "Lurker Below". Above the screenshot you'll see the boss' name and level. You'll also see a map mouseover for the npc on the words "Serpentshrine Cavern". By the way, if you create a second mouseover for the Lurker Below using a different screenshot, it has to have a different tooltip name.
Code:
Fish up the \\\Lurker Below\\\Level ? Beast (Boss)\\\\\\\Lurker Below\\ from the \
Strange Pool
in \
Serpentshrine Cavern\
.
NOTES: For ideas about using custom tooltips see my first Guide under
World Events
about certain quests in the Argent Tournament. I really sweated through the BBCode, and this Guide,
Undisplayed BBCode Available to Regular Users,
and
Guide Writing for Dummies
and the very detailed threads were invaluable.

Great advice. Custom tooltips are code-heavy but you can really add a lot to guides if you use them well.
So that people can immediately see what the output looks like I'll paste your code in here below:
Fish up the Lurker BelowLevel ? Beast (Boss)Lurker Below from the
Strange Pool
in
Serpentshrine Cavern

Hi asakawa
I just submitted my first guide (Guide=2450). How do I add an image to the title -- right now there's just a "New" icon for an image? Is there a prompt for an image after the guide gets approved? And what's the size in pixels?
I submitted my guide on the very day that MoD Patch 6.0.2 went live (but I didn't realize there was a drop down menu for the patch number). I expect most of the information would remain the same, since the guide is about specific Argent Tournament quests and a few related Icecrown quests.
I found this post which may apply (although it refers to MoP beta). Please explain where something like would go and how it would connect to information in a guide. For URLs I've mostly used the full url beginning with www....

(Patch 4.3.4)
If you're doing an MoP-based guide then my only suggestion that you might not have been aware of before is to use at the start of the guide which will make all links/tooltips come from the MoP sie of the site. If you want to link something from live you need to add "site=www" to each link.

Hi there,
1) We handle that.
2) Even after submitting you can press edit and change things like the patch number. (Even after approval in fact)
3) This works only with the "links" system (e.g. \
) rather than using \s. That said, it shouldn't be necessary for your guide anyway.
Nice guide btw!

Now that my guide is published, what's the process for making changes? Is Edit/Save enough? Or do I use Edit/Save/Submit?
I did find that from time to time the Save function didn't save and I really want to avoid this now. When it did happen I'd delete the content in the Edit Your Guide window and paste in the newest content I'd saved as a backup Word document. To reduce the chance of a failed Save, I tried using Firefox, checking the number of bars on my internet connection and turning off programs running in the background and emptying my Word cache. (I'm generally getting my signal from a repeater; using a direct connection often, but not always, helped.)
And I've always wondered about the Upload function with the pink screen that I seemed to accidentally trigger now and then. How do I deliberately turn on Upload and what is its function?
Post by

With regards to your first question, you just need to use the Edit/Save functions. Submit is only used for the initial request to publish.
...I'm not sure about your other questions, though, so I'll leave them to asak to respond.

Hmm, "Upload function with the pink screen"? I'm not sure I know what you mean. Are you talking about uploading an image?
Post by
Doloria
Whenever I clicked on the black square labelled "Upload an image" it always opened like it was supposed to in C: drive. But occasionally I clicked something that would generate a large blank window above my edit screen with a border that said "Upload". I think that border was pink.
When this blank screen appeared, the words "Upload an image" were no longer visible. I never pasted anything in the blank window because of the warnings about not submitting an unfinished guide. Just wondered what it was.
Another question: what is the width of a published guide in pixels? (I'm considering starting another guide.)
Post by
asakawa
Sounds like a bug but it's one that I've never encountered or heard of before. It may be caused by the intermittent connection you said you were experiencing.
The width of guides is 1200px I think.

This might sound dumb, but, how do i add the quest icon to a comment i am making? i want this one
http://wow.zamimg.com/images/wow/icons/tiny/quest_start.gif
edit: also want to know how to get the green font?
Post by
SquireKel
\text\ gives text
As for the green text in the forums, you have to be a moderator to receive it. In the database, comments with ratings of +10 or higher automatically turn green.

thank you for your answer but ...text doesnt work for me.. it intrigues me, i am trying to format a comment

but it doesnt work...

The Hidden Master
, is that what you are looking to see?
If so, you need to put the quest ID information in brackets like so
, in this example the questid is 29983. You can create a link by going to the quest page and clicking the link button at the top of the page and then copy the Markup Tag, or you can make it yourself by obtaining the quest ID number when looking at the webpage information in your browser bar.

Exactly that! the problem is, when i format it like you say, all i get is a yellow text that says
Evacuation Orders
and not the name or the icon! edit, suddenly it works for me... what did i do?
