The point that incestuous sex is more likely to bring about genetic problems is moot. There are also non-related couples with a genetic predisposition for birthing children with disorders... is it right to stop them from having sex or procreating? And even then, the issue would really be procreation through incestuous behavior, not really incestuous behavior itself.
Yeah there are couples that when combined breed kids with disorders, but it's more or less a matter of chance. With inbreeding you can be sure there are gonna be problems down the line after a few of generations.
Incest for purpose of procreation is like committing suicide on your own genetic line. If your intend is to properly bring up children conceived in this fashion to be a valuable members of society and to be able to have their own kids sometime in the future then inbreeding basically is in opposition to this goal.
First, by justifying incest for procreation you're teaching your kids that it's ok to do so unless it's just a one-time stunt and your offspring will not be permitted to practice incest, which would be kind of hypocritical for someone who's advocating for it.
This makes it likely that it will be repeated by a generation down the line (not necessarily the 1st generation but some of the later ones). There might not be any visible detrimental results after the first one hundred years, then after the first thousand years your line will be possibly extinct.
Now, let's assume that incest for procreation is legalized in society and millions of people practice it. The genetic degeneration takes on a new higher level because it doesn't just affect your line but many others as well.
I think legalizing incest for procreation might be the perfect way of dealing with the "problem" of overpopulation, is it better than economically caused starvation? I don't know. Is it faster than waging wars?. It's much slower solution, but I think... much cleaner, too.
Do you still find the point moot?

Genetic diseases and physical abnormalities, but then again maybe the inbreds can come up with some kind of their own aesthetics. Good luck with that.
And although I don't think that little kids can groom one another to have sex later on, this kind of conditioning seems a bit like treating human beings as tools for breeding purposes without their informed consent. Might go through well together with forced marriages and selling your own kids away.
If the problem is kids being created from incest, then only incest for procreation should be illegal. And the point of legalizing incest is for there to be more freedom in love, so Laihendi doesn't understand what you are saying about humans being breeding tools, and having forced marriages and stuff.
Okies, let's talk about a particular single example in order to get a common starting point for the discussion. Would 'incest between biological siblings' be a good one to use?

The problem is that with the way the laws are, no one could sue and win in an innocent situation involving incest. That's why Laihendi believes the laws should be changed.
I think they could, you wouldn't sue that you were wrongfully charged, you would sue that the law was wrongfully written. You might win that case.
Well the courts have to function according to the laws, so even if everyone felt like the laws are wrongfully written, they still have to carry them out until someone changes the laws.

If I found out I and my partner were both carriers of some nasty genetic disease, not only would I not have kids, I wouldn't even risk sex with them in case of accidental pregnancy.
It's reckless to risk the well being of your child because you have the hots for someone, related or not.
Laihendi understands this way of thinking, and has no problem with people choosing to do that. He would probably act the same way in a similar situation. However, he feels it isn't right for there to be a law saying there can be absolutely no sexual contact between people just because if they happened to have a kid, it could have problems. Laihendi believes people should be able to do what they want with their bodies. Safe sex doesn't result in babies.

It's worth noting that Malgayne released 'vagina' from the censor after that thread.
Anyway, my thoughts on the matter:
1) There are no laws generally prohibiting people with high chances of passing genetic defects or diseases onto kids from procreating, therefore, private sexual acts between two consenting adult family members form a part of 'legitimate' behaviour.
2) Laws shouldn't be put in place restricting 'legitimate' behaviour in order to discourage other illegal behaviour. That would be like advocating laws that "under 18s aren't allowed in shopping malls, because it reduces the chance that they'll shoplift".
3) Therefore, there are no reasonable grounds why incest between consenting adults (i.e. past the age of majority) should be prohibited.
Issues about child grooming / indoctrination, sexual relations with children and unconsenting sexual relations can all be dealt with under existing grooming / underage sex / rape laws.
