Trust me, people are in fact relying too much on GS.

Every server that isn't RP is now GS obsessed, rather, some "leet" people are GS obessed.

At one point my GM was obsessed with GS and if you didn't have GS to his standard you couldn't come with him. Then I find out he is a 14 year old when his real voice was discovered in vent when the thing disguising his voice messed up.

That story doesn't mean all people who want high GS are 14, but this is just one example.

Again, the cliche of GS vs Skill comes into mind.

There are A LOT of people who are carried, and everyone has been carried before.

GS of course doesn't mean Great Skill, it means Gear Score, big difference.

I have never EVER not been allowed to go to a VoA... thats just.... stupid...

Your either unlucky with the people you find to run raids with, or most people on your server are obsessive compulsive.

I can't very well tell you another server that isn't really bad, but I hope I helped.

They've added stuff to VoA.

You haven't added stuff you your gear.

I'm with you on that. I use gearscore, but only for a bit of info on their gear level. Unlike many people, however, I don't really care too much about it, and only care about skill, and use it as just a finishing factor if I'm undecided on someone.

Garrosh US doesn't really care about gearscore, or at least the Alliance side doesn't.

make your own raid,
wel on my server we all got the gearscore addon, but we dont look at, the only time you wil be rejected for a raid is when your full of blues

I don't understand. My gearscore is 19, counting bullets (I don't have a second weapon). Where do you guys get all these extra gearslots?

Also, people ask me to link achievement. But when I link achievement like http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=224 or http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=1957 they become annoyed and I can't join the raid.

Which is about as serious as one should take the GS and achievement nonsense.

*snicker* So true. I'm in the process of gearing up a DK tank, and have been focusing on the new high-end regulars. I've successfully tanked Forge of Souls and Pit of Saron multiple times. Last night, I queued up for an FoS run and had 2 healers and 2 DPS (singly) drop when they saw my gear score. After that waste of about five minutes, the newcomers stuck and we stomped the place flat, with no deaths at all.

Ignore them and try to find a good guild.

Yea.. GS has really kinda ruined the game in a sense. Don't get me wrong, it helps me know who I should most likely put vigilance on 7/10 times, but it gets out of hand a lot.

Really, I've been seeing VoA's on my server with people spamming: "5.5K GS OR NO INVITE," which is stupid.

People seem to forget, skill > gear. I understand skill can only go so far without the best gear, but still.

Oh, and it's VoA people. You go in there to gear up, some people need things besides badges.

Edit: Avoid my server, Kel'Thuzad. It's full of elitist that would make you want to /headdesk.

Come to Doomhammer. I only require 4500+ for my VoA's. Other day I had a 4600 Shaman out heal 2 5500+ healers. Sometimes gearscore is a crutch for people to slack off. I see this all the time in 5 mans. 5700 GS DPS thinks auto attacks = good contribution.

Healing meters are utterly useless for comparing healers to healers. Use it for seeing how much a healer is healing with which spells, but never use it as you would a DPS meter. It just doesn't work that way.

I top the meters almost every time I'm anywhere. With my 4100 GS I outheal those with 5500+ GS. The problem is, though, that I'm simply waiting to top off people rather than get their health up when it matters most. Also, it's pretty damn random whether your heal is mostly wasted or mostly efficient. It all depends on the timing of other healers, and the incoming damage..

Still, a 4000-ish GS healer outhealing a 5000+ GS healer every single time means he knows what he's doing. Just don't let it trick you into thinking the other healers are slacking.

Hopefully Blizzard will do something about the GearScore addon. Too many people place too much weight on GS and it's gotten out of hand. Ban this addon or just make it a better representation of someone's skill.

A good alternative for now is Elitist Group (Curse.com). It'll put a score on a character based not only on the item levels of their gear, but evaluate them on their gear and gem choices for their current spec, as well as place a weight on how experienced they are (how many times they've killed bosses or cleared a dungeon/raid, which hardmodes they've done, etc.), and recommend what type of content they should be doing.

After playing this game for 4 years and accumulating 5 level 80's, I don't need to be persecuted for my latest 80 having only 3.5k gearscore. I've got the experience and the theory and I know how to play my different classes, so why should a low gearscore suddenly mean I'm bad? There needs to be a better way to evaluate someone's skill than just looking at their ~~gear~~ item levels.
