Ya know what? I just realized something. Elemental Combat and Restoration shaman may
not
be fighting for the same gear. This reminds me of when they merged Spell Healing and Spell Damage into Spell Power back in TBC. It brought out the same argument Ele and Resto's are having today. However, the other stats on those pieces of gear determined who they were meant for. MP5 equaled healer gear; Hit Rating equaled DPS gear. Now that those two have been somewhat merged into Spirit for Cataclysm, we'll now have to look at the other stats. While true, many of them have disappeared from gear or removed altogether, some like Haste and Crit Rating will remain.
From what we know Haste will be changing into a sort of "resource regen" stat which--while useful for hunters now with focus and rogues--sounds pretty redundant seeing as Spirit will be doing that for mana users already. However, we don't know the full story of how stats will affect certain classes and specs. Or even how new talents will affect those stats and their changes, since the talent system is getting an overhaul of its own.
Maybe this will be like TBC and gear will still be clearly marked DPS vs Healer depending on stats. Maybe not. All we can do is speculate.
Edited for sentence structure and spelling. Its the ocd in me.
