I'm about to get my TF on my prot-pally.
So, I ask you guys...what level 80 content have you tanked with TF?
1) Yes, I know this is a level 60 weapon.
2) Yes, I know my ICC mace is better.
But I'm sure some content can be tank with this old legendary...especially with it's threat-based proc.
Any stories?

Yeah, if you used Thunderfury to tank at 80, you'd have some serious threat issues as a Paladin, because of its low weapon damage, making HoTR hit for very low amounts, along with low damage from judgements and Seal of Vengeance.
And...the proc is threat-based? Wut? From what I read, it GENERATES threat, it's not threat-based. It only generates around 86 dps worth of threat, which is easily outdone by even ilvl 200 1hand weapons, and that's just counting the DPS on the weapon. Even
compared to a low Northrend green
, the low Northrend green is still much better, because of its higher damage for HoTR, judgements and SoV.
tl;dr: No, Thunderfury would suck for level 80 tanking. It was insane back at 60, but now it's pretty much only good for what Seeahfoo does: standing around in Dalaran with a giant frickin' sword.

Considering you don't even need to be prot to tank WotLK heroics since everyone is so overgeared...
I'd say it's doable as long as everyone watches threat or use plenty of taunts.

I meant that the proc generates threat.
I only asked because sometimes you out-threat people by a mile, so if this weapon can generate enough threat to just barely keep aggro, then it would be fun to use.
For example, most heroics, after you get the initial threat and throw down a consecrate...it's impossible for anyone to pull aggro because the damage that would take to pull aggro would be enough to kill the mob.
But I guess I will know soon enough...Once I get it today, I'll try it out in random Heroics first...

Our MT has tanked farm raids (Ulduar ,ToC, ICC) with TF np.
Paladins generate a ton of threat that has very, very little to do with their actual weapon.
ShoR
,
SoV DoT & Judge
,
HS
, and
Consecrate
are weapon-independant.
HotR
deals damage based on MH DPS, so given 5k buffed AP and TF instead of a weapon ~20x DPS, you're losing 150 MH DPS, or 150/(200 + 5000/14) = ~27% of the threat from HotR. This number would go down with more AP, I just picked an easy ballpark number.
You lose a similar amount (~25%) from the SoV 5-stack proc.
Someone above said the proc is ~86 DPS of threat, which would make the white damage of TF be in the neighborhood of 140 DPS, or ~11% down from a 20x DPS weapon.
Without spending more time than I care to, ballpark wise it's probably a 10% threat drop at most, and any sufficiently geared tank will beat DPS by more than that on most fights to begin with.

Unfortunately, that's wrong.

For working out equivalent dps weapon for threat generation, given that the proc does 300 damage on about 20% of hits, that's 300 x 0.20 = an average of an extra 60 damage per hit. Speed 1.90 means 60 / 1.90 = about 32 dps added by the proc, for a total of about 86 dps.

Meh, knock another 10% off white threat then. Not a significant difference.

Erezthium and Ippon appear to have completely different takes...
...can;t wait to try!

I mean, it's not
good
, it just
doesn't matter
. We're not really saying anything different as far as it's actual usefulness.

He's saying, "you'd have some serious threat issues as a Paladin" and "Thunderfury would suck for level 80 tanking"
And you're saying, "Our MT has tanked farm raids (Ulduar ,ToC, ICC) with TF np."
seems different :P
I'm hoping it will be sufficient to bust out for non-serious stuff. I don't want to feel like I'm gimping the group for playing with a new toy.

How is 54/140 or even 54/86 10%?

AP is a part of damage.

Ah, right.
Overall, it should be like tanking with a tBC blue/purple.
Except you get that sexy 20% slow melee speed in AoE.

I´ve fought some lvl80 rogue(s maybe more than one?) and a hunter (lvl 80) using that as a offhand in pvp.
Whats up with that? Is the procc that op, or are they just showing off?

Only had a chance to do 1 Heroic so far with it...and it's been pretty cool.
H UK done in about 12 mins, I would say aggro is easier and that debuff spreads so fast.
Tried it in ICC and tanked the tall Skeleton with it...no real difference, cept the big cyclone effect.
So far, totally worth it!

I wouldn't say that the proc is OP, but it does reduce your melee autoattack by 20% a decent mitigation ability for a hunter I guess.

Sounds awesome!
