I am hoping...
hoping!
...to be able to farm for some delicious mounts. I would rather not have to bring a bazillion people with me. This, because:
a)
It's difficult enough getting a group together for a regular dungeon-run, with a better expectation for certain drops. And,
b)
when the
0.7% droprate
mount DOES drop, the more people there are, the much lessened my chances of getting it. Those others who do get it, may possibly not be so motivated to see things through for their "friends".
Hence, I'm hoping to farm with 1-3 persons at most. (I also think that three is the most I can count on being available... Two, much more often)
I had been reading up on the Warlock tanking thread with avaricious glee, only to discover the nerf which Blizzard handed to us in
3.11
. Also, I'm hoping to not tank so much myself, as to use a Felguard or Voidwalker, and carefully do the rest. (After all... it's going to be about outlasting the boss I want to down, and not necessarily taking him down quickly. I definitely wouldn't want to surpass the threat of my VW or FG)
My wife is a Retadin. She has dual-specced for Protection, but doesn't yet have even a fraction of the needed items to tank an instance properly. However? It worked well-enough for quest-runs into areas several levels above ourselves, all the way up to 80. (She tanked, I spanked)
My first target? The
Swift Zulian Tiger
. I found a couple of very
helpful
comments
in the information for High Priest Thekal, but these are
also
before the 3.11 nerf! Thekal is also a "skull" boss, which means his abilities and stats may change, according to the levels of those attacking him.
What I am wondering is, can you more knowledgeable guys make some good suggestions on what spec(s) and equipment I may want to bring to this kind of a battle? I already can see that I'm going to want to spec heavily into Demo, if I want to have any chance of success with this at all.
I am also wondering... Someone, just recently, told me that a skull-level boss may set its levels towards the average, with an incoming raid party. So, if I were to partner up with a level-50 person, would this be an easier fight?

No... All the skull means is that the targets chance to hit, crit, be hit, be missed, base resistances and the like are treated as if he were Three levels above you (in your case, he is treated as a level 83 mob). His abilities, stats, damage and the like stay the same.
To answer your question, any PvP Affliction build will do. I've solo'd MC, AQ20 ZG and a handful of level 70 (non heroic for the most part) dungeons with no problems (although on some bosses you have to get "creative"). The best way to survive is to know your class; know your CCs, your ports, your pets. Some bosses can be tanked by you yourself; others will have to be tanked by your voidwalker.
The build I use for solo'ing stuff:
54/17/0
. I also use my
Demo PvE
spec for certain AoE pulls (Immolation Aura rapes packs of otherwise unruly adds). If you are more adventurous, certain fights can be tanked by your felguard... However the amount of self healing you receive as demo is pitifully tiny compared to affliction.
Remember, when in doubt... Kite him to Vael's room.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I run with a moderately well geared PvP set. I have ~27.5k HP unbuffed in this set.

Thanks for that, so far. Right now, I have some crummy Item Level 178 gear to PvP with. And, not even a full set. I've gotten two of my Tier 9.0 raiding pieces, and ought to have my third in a day or so.
Also, High Priest Thekal has two buddies: a Rogue and a Shaman. (Not to mention some tigers, that may be an annoyance) If you kill any one of them, they will likely be resurrected by the others. And so, the supposed method is that you have to kill them all within about ten seconds of one another. (Meta+ImmoAura may be necessary... but I'm not sure. I'm hoping to use Siphon Life for better longevity. And I'm not yet fully comfortable with Demo. I'm much, much stronger with Afflic and Destro) Thankfully, Thekal's buddies are
not
skull-bosses. But they definitely hurt!
More than anything, I'm not looking to burn them down, hard and fast... but to let my VW or FG keep aggro, and suck them dry. I'd likely try to Drain Mana both Thekal and his Shammy.
My wife and I
"two-manned" Kelseth
(Who is not a skull boss) for the Bouquet of Red Roses two days ago. This gave me hope. It only took us two wipes to figure out what we were doing, and then it got easy.

Something demoish like FG/SiLi or Meta/Run or something like that? I'd use a felguard though.
Although my mate swears by his voildwalker because the glyph gives it more health.
Also..
ooh and while your their you should try soloing the raptor dude its extremely easy as a demonologist.

Sewage-green raptor? Maybe. I have the battle one, and I'm working towards the regulars, for the orange one.
Orange is my favorite color. (Well, that and copper) Hence, not only do I want to farm this tiger for its uniqueness as a Horde mount, but because it is so, so
oraaaaange
. ;-)
(Yeah, I know that seems gay, but I didn't figure out my favorite colors 'til I was 35.)

MC is actually pretty easy once you learn the gimmicks/exploits to certain fights. I will admit, I am not clever enough to think of these gimmicks and exploits...
This video series
helped me out IMMENSELY.
If you have solo'd LK Regulars and BC heroics, you should be a pro at teaching your VW to offtank while you deal with 1-2 mobs... TBH thats the only skill you need to solo any old-world raid that doesn't require 2+ people (Razorgore, Prophet whats his face in AQ40, any boss with Mind Control, etc)
