Question about T-10

I need to know about a prototype Terminator...
(No, but I always think of that, when I see "T-" anything)
So, I'm squirreling away those Emblems of Frost, saving up for my first big purchases of gear. And I've got a question, which may seem fairly stupid to some of you. Is there ANY reason why I would want to use those emblems to buy anything BUT the T-10 gear? (Like, say, Tier 9?)
I figure that, if I'm faithful, and if I can make sure to do the weekly raids, almost weekly, I could get a full set by six months or so from now. Is there anything I might not know? I mean... would T-8 and -9 pieces be somewhat cheaper, giving me more gains in a shorter period of time? (I'm starting to get the layout of Dalaran, but the whole emblems thing has been very confusing for a new 80 like myself)

Yeah? Now I'm more confused.
What would you save your Embems of Frost for?
And what set should I be shooting for, then? The currency stuff in WoW is a bit of a mystery, I'm trying to learn about right now. I just barely found a currency vendor in the Underbelly, yesterday.
I remember the question coming up on whether a particular Warlock ought to shoot for Kel'Thuzad's or Guldan's set. I just can't seem to find it. Should I be going for one of those?

Up to you, really it's all just how long you'd like to wait to get into the t-1000 (lol terminator). If you raid ICC often (steady frost income) or just don't really care how fast you get into the stuff, sure trading down is an option, but I really wouldn't recommend it as triumph are easy (full set of 9 in just a few days if you go hard at it), while frost is a guaranteed wait.
If you're pretty serious about getting into 10, shoot for shoulders/head first. As far as the generic frost emblem vendor, the belt is pretty good but most of the rest I'm not too impressed with when measuring it against the potential of your tier set.
Just my 2 copper.
EDIT: In the meantime imo, use your triumph emblems to buy your t9 from the vendor on the platform outside the ToC10/25 entrance.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies, guys.
So, if I wanted to be a lesser T-9 terminator sooner -- kickin' arse in the mean time -- what set would work best for me? And why are Guldan's and Kel'Thuzad's sets apparently identical?
---
EDIT: Whoops, found a helpful comment, stating that one is Alliance, and the other Horde.
So I get the Guldan's set to start with? And then, as I find Trophies of the Crusade, I can upgrade pieces of this set? (And save up my Emblems of Frost for T-10 items?)
I might be getting the hang of this a little better... Or, I might just
think
I am.
(RE-EDIT... moving this question down lower, to maintain flow)

Guldan's is horde, KTZ's is alliance.

Sorry... edited my post while you were replying.
So, the game plan is: (?)
Get emblems of triumph.
Obtain Guldan's. (All pieces, unless I have something better? Though the set bonus is nice)
Get Trophies of the Crusade, to upgrade it, where I can.
Save up Emblems of Frost, to purchase T-10 gear, and slowly replace my T-9 set?

Pretty much, yeah.
The main progression for most folks (especially dps) is to just farm up triumph emblems and get your t9 set. The set bonuses are very, very good, no matter what spec you're rolling with, so you'll want those.
Full set of basic t9 (non upgraded with trophies) is sufficient to get you into ICC10; I've primarily run my priest and DK through ToCr/ToGCr, never took the lock, and I still end up 3rd or 4th on the Saurfang meter rolling in mostly basic t9, so the output difference isn't too vast. Trophies will drop from the ToC raids, so if you're not getting into that, don't fret about it too much and just go ahead and get the ball rolling for your triumph gear.
There are a couple pieces of non-set items you can buy from the generic triumph vendor (shoulders, head) that are slightly better than the set pieces, but be careful to only choose one of them (if you get either of them); you don't want to break your 4-piece set bonus for a minor gain in spellpower or haste.
And finally yes, imo totally save your frost emblems, and be careful not to break your t9 set bonus when you start replacing gear. It may not seem like a whole hell of a lot, but it really is. Once you've farmed enough frost emblems, and you're at the point where you're outgrowing your t9, make sure when you break your 4-piece t9 bonus you're doing so to replace it with the t10 2-piece bonus.
GL ^_^
EDIT: Crafted
bracers
are not too expensive and much better (and more worth the emblem cost) than the conquest bracers. Also, try to get the
cloak
from H ToC (5man) and the
boots
from H PoS as they're much better than the pieces you can get with lesser emblems.

Which non-set items would you most recommend, if I want to replace one of the items in the T-9?
And yeah, that sounds very intelligent, dropping the 4-set bonus for the 2-set bonus of the T-10.

At this point I haven't farmed either one due to spending most of my time on a shaman I'm taking through outland. But I'd take the
head
(pornographic as that sounds), as the haste is great and the +hit provides a cushion on that stat if you need it. The triumph trinkets are not all that great, I'm using the +hit one because I was just a few points low and I don't have a very impressive selection of trinkets for that toon... my warlock's setup is in my profile, his current gear level is just barely starting to brush up against ICC so it's more or less what you'll be looking at pretty soon.

Thank you. You've been very helpful. I at least have someplace to start, now.
(I'll welcome any other suggestions which people may have!)

Actually I have a question related to this... If you have the full Dark Coven set (just as an example) and have enough to trade up 2 of the pieces, do the 2 piece set bonuses (since they are the same thing) stack?
Post by
Onijitsu
Yeah, they do. All WoW cares about is, you have two pieces from this one set. If you have two pieces from this other set, you'll get the two-piece bonus too.
Apparently, it once was considered beneficial to stack the 2-piece bonuses between two particular sets of armor. (The tiers had certain 2-piece bonuses that worked together very nicely)

The 2 piece set bonuses do not stack, they are considered the same set, but the pieces count towards the 4 piece.
