For PvP, the only benefits you get from Engineering in arena are the rocket glove attachments. Everything else is useless/unusable. You need the 35 spell pen enchant on your cloak, so there goes your option for +27 spellpower. Rocket boots don't work in arena anymore, and neither does the grenade belt attachment.
It's a very expensive profession to level up, the only benefit of which being able to fire a ranged attack for ~2k off the GCD. Certainly this helps with burst, 2k between yourself and your teammates very easily being the deciding factor or whether or not you get a kill.
I'm an enchanter/engineer myself, and I don't necessarily regret it (trinket+rocket boosting away from a 4+ people in WSG and escaping safely is always fun), but sometimes I do wish I chose more profitable professions.
Also, the issue with tailoring and PVP is that you have to figure out where to make up for the 35 spellpen to cloak that you would usually have if you want to use the Lightweave Embroidery. Also, proc-based abilities are generally frowned upon for PvP, because it's almost never up when you need it.

and what about PvE, is egineering good ?
The Hyperspeed Accelerators offer a little over twice as much DPS contribution as the 28 SP to gloves enchant. This puts it's worth at about ~35-ish spellpower, putting it fairly close in line to other professions. If you have the engineering cloak and have enough hit to skip out on icewalker for the rocket boosts, the bit of extra spellpower and crit rating should get you close enough to that ~46 spellpower increase from other professions.
Engineering is alright in pve, but certainly isn't the best. However, if you work Saronite Bombs into your rotation, then perhaps you'll see better results.

Don't forget Frostweave nets as a tailor for pvp! Learn to use them, and you'll start liking that root quite a bit.
