Defense till capped, then stamina. Try getting as close to hit cap as possible to the hit cap (8%, 264 hit rating I think) through gear. One dodge/stamina red gem to activate meta.
Oh yeah. And read the link the guy above me posted.

Nice job being a grammar Nazi. You know what I mean.
540 defense is crit capped (meaning raid bosses can't crit ur face off, 535 for heroics)
try to Nazi that up.

It's not even soft cap. You have to have 535/540 def floor for uncritability, it's ABSOLUTE MINIMUM you MUST have. But there's no roof you can break with it. So - no cap.

*Sigh*
What bothers me about this kind of thing is that you didn't actually offer any actual advice to the original poster. You didn't offer any kind of commentary on what someone else said about their advice to the poster. It seems like the only thing you wanted to do was just go "Oh, you know, that's not the absolute 100% best way to say it. You're wrong, and I wanted to show how cool I am that I know this."
As plenty of people have said, it's a term used on these forums. WoW does have a dialect, and sometimes people use these kinds of colloquialisms to facilitate communication. The problem with harping over this common phrase is that you're not actually making it easier to communicate. You're doing the exact opposite; and I doubt you're doing it to actually benefit the original poster.
In short? You know what everyone means.
If it really, really bothers you that people say "def cap"? To the point where you're sitting there, gnashing your teeth, beating your breasts, pulling your hair out and lamenting to the heavens? Think of it as a lower cap. Think of it as an inverse cap. Think of it as a soft cap. Think of it as roast beef, whatever.
Just, you know, relax. And if this is the only problem you have in the world? Where "defense cap" is the worst thing you have to deal with? Congratulations. You're doing better than most.
To the original poster, what stats you go for are also going to be determined by what kind of tank you are. Blood, Frost, or Unholy. One of the best
articles
I've ever read on the subject goes over this in comprehensive, painstaking detail. You'll have to decide if you prefer the route of a stamina stacked tank versus an avoidance stacked tank, and that's kind of something you'll need to get a feel for.
It would probably help to get a friend or guildmate who is a healer to run with you for a few dungeons while you try it out. It's not just about what you're comfortable with; it's also what a healer is comfortable with, too.

Oh yeah, pulle was on the DK forums too. No comment aside from that. Its not a cap, just because someone feels it necessary to correct you so you can no longer be wrong you attack him. He did it shortly and rather terribly rude but nonetheless he is correct. There is no cap, referring to it as a cap is incorrect. It is a minimum required in the very sense of the phrase.
My Devil's advocate work of today is done.

I agree he said it pretty rudely, but I'm not attacking. Ok maybe a little but when someones a bit of an a-hole I tend to feel the need to defend myself. And it is a very common term on these forums so unless he wants to go through all the stickies and other forums and correct everyone, I think he should just suck it up and tough it out.
I guess I'm just weird like that.
