Hello fellow rambler. I like that idea. It would make pets that much more interesting. We all know that Ten. pets have a lil more duribility. In pvp my pet is often focused. I have many cunning and ferocity pets. Cunning uses roots, snares, stuns, and silences. Ferocity pets up my dmg and theres as well. Id like to have a wolf spec'd Ten. That would make him last a lil bit longer lol
I really do like giving each pet the 3 different trees. Its like playing to different characters

I do like the idea too. I do like my wolf but I don't like that I "have" to use it to get the best dps. A dps'ing bear would be cool and I could also start using my hyena which I love but never gets used cause the dps loss is too much :(
There are so many cool potential pets out there it is a shame we really cannot make use of most of them.

I agree with this idea! It would bring in a little unique quality to each hunter in being able to decide what pet he wants and what situation he will use them for. I hope Blizzard considers this for the expansion.

I like this idea a lot. The only difference between pets would be their unique ability (webbing, furious howl, bad attitude etc.) and of course the way they look. It would bring variety back to the hunters.

I like this idea partially...I mean every type of pet that exists in WoW has in its core a "cunning" ability, so that aspect could be worked in easily. Perhaps (though it would probably take more work then they wanted) having every pet type have its own tree, and depending on where you spec down into depends on what it is, like the OP suggested, so say you get a crab and want it ferocity. You spec into that tree and somewhere in there is a talent like furious Howl (the idea of a crab howling is hilarious to me, wonder what the in game sound would be!). Or you tame a wolf and want him to be cunning. Down in that cunning tree would be some talent that would have an ability to demobilize or stun (sniffing crotch? IDK!) etc etc for the different pets be it scorpion Silithid or kitty.
I do like the idea though, and hopefully its something that's been tossed about the big blue office.

How about this...
at level 10..you get a quest to take a boat to a faaaaaraway island.
on that island are a whole herd of free roaming, untextured cubes.
you can choose any little untextured cube that you like...
you give him/her a name...and then you get back on the boat and return to Azeroth.
then, its off to the pet stylist...you can choose how your pets looks, what sounds they make, what pet family you'd like them to belong to, and their abilities.
that way, everybody can bring whichever pet they want to the raid...
(ALL of which should still have Furious Howl, being the best raiding ability...so underneath they would all be wolves anyway.)
sorry...I couldnt make it any more sarcastic, I really tried.
This would be an option for those players who do not get 'into' the game. They don't play e.g. a troll but a bunch of pixels. It could be coloured blobs or markers as far as they're concerned. Items are just stats and the way they look doesn't matter.
Most people I know (YMMV) do roleplay to some extent in that they immerse themselves in the world. They play e.g. a troll and care what an item looks like. So they tame a wolf and not some pixels.
