I believe this is the proper order for the novels, chronologically of course. I've read a few of them and enjoyed them very much as I love the lore surrounding the Warcraft universe.
War of the Ancients Trilogy
Rise of the Horde
The Last Guardian
Tides of Darkness
Beyond the Dark Portal
Lord of the Clans
Day of the Dragon
Of Blood and Honor
Cycle of Hatred
The Sunwell Trilogy
Night of the Dragon
Arthas Rise of the Lich King

Day is before Lord of the Clans, and Night is the end, as it takes place right as Wrath is suppose to launch, while Rise of the Lich King is a month or so before the assault on Azeroth.

Technically, DotD is before WotA, but only because of the time-travel thing. I'd suggest moving WotA somewhere between DotD and NotD, as I'm not sure when it's supposed to occur (not talking about the majority of it, which takes place 10k years before the others, but before and after that).
Yeah, this is right. WoTA isn't at the beginning because of time-travel.
On a side note, I LOVED Rise of the Horde. It almost made me want to roll an orc.

I was also looking into starting and this s great.
But I was also wondering, are they harder to follow?
I imagine there are tons of characters, places, and other things, so can it be overwhelming?

Okay, thanks. I'll have to pick up Rise of The Horde next time I go to Barnes and Noble.

Yah that was my favourite of all the novels so far, though I still have a few more to read that I want to start again soon. All the lore of Draenor was really interesting!
