What's your operating system? Might help.

Update to SP3 and then give it a try. You're running an insecure computer if you're only using SP2.

Security doesn't have anything to do with it, you're right. I would assume though that Blizz has tested everything on the latest versions of operating systems.
If you're already at SP3, then there isn't much that I can do to help you. Sorry.

So after some 3.3 patch drama, I had to reinstall WoW. I couldn't get the downloader to work at all from the Account Management page. I keep getting an error message saying that the application "failed to read information from the internet" and to close all applications. I've made sure I have the correct ports open and forwarded for the downloader, have tried flushing my dns and tried running the program by itself. I've turned my firewall off to see if that helped, no such luck.
Does anyone have any further advice?
I know something like this should probably be on the official forums, but an off-the-cuff remark about a moderator got me banned a few years ago.
Disable any firewall and virus-scanner software you may have, see if that helps. If it works, its likely one of those two causing the issue. To me that sounds like a porting issue. Tho you say you have the right ports forwarded, its may not be working properly. by disabling the firewall you remove anything blocking the connection.
Only other sugestion is to take a screen shot of the error and report it to the
Official Technical Support Forum
where an Official GM of blizzard might know whats wrong.
If you do decide to get the DVD copy from your local retailer, i sugest picking up just the WOTLK version as that will install all 3 versions at once. Provided you have all 3 upgrades registered. Other option would be to borrow a friends copy.
