Prot was the huge IHATETHOSEGUYSSOMUCH last season ( a warrior broke
3k
rating in 3s as prot. )
Prot is an awesome spec: it offers insane mobility ( just under feral druid ), large amout of control of casters, excellent survivability for your and your partners.
It lacks burst but team up with a huge dps team with a healing debuff ( like a Mark hunter ) and a good healer and rock the arena.
For gear set-up, use the basic arms pvp ArP gear. Pick a slow 1h weapon and a shield with block value ( I use
this beauty
with BS shield enchant ).
If you ear that prot was nerfed to the ground, ignore that. Prot simply went from God Like to competitive.

You still want your tanking T10 2pc set bonus. And BV up to the soft cap, at least.

No.
1. Using real tanking gear will seriously lower your survivability VS casters, hunters, envenom rogue, etc.....
2. SS days are over. By using ArP gear, the damage output will be good with every attacks instead of putting your eggs in the same basket.
3. It's a real shame to waste excellent tank gear for pvp.

I think the damage you put out in pvp-gear as prot is absolutely laughable, and the damage in your raid tanking gear even lamer.
2 piece t8,5 tank gear and 2 piece t9 tank gear. (preferably pieces with block value, both set bonuses boosts your devastate)
the rest of your gear should be a slow onehander, a shield with bv enchant smith thing on, and pve dps plate pieces.
Sure this makes your survivability next to none, as you have mediocre stamina, no ressilence, and rather low avoidance, but your damage will be fine. You cant outlast (tank) your opponents to death like this, so adopt a hyper aggressive playstyle. Stay on them, stun, slow, interrupt and dps constantly.

Prot survivability is not in gear, it's in the insane amount of control you have.
And, like I said, a pure tank gear will give you nothing versus any kind of magic damage besides more health while a " arms pvp gear" will give you resillience, a stat that is all around good.
Prot warrior damage was lowered in 3.3.2 but if you still want a decent damage output and some survivability, PvP gear with Arp is the way to go.

Then you don't wanna play a druid my friend ;)
If I could had all the specs I wanted, I would have been a feral pvp, feral tank, feral dps, chicken dps, heal pvp and heal pve.
There's nothing wrong about trying arenas, you can't became good a good lumberjack if you stay out of the forest.
About your spec, you both have excellent tools to help a team but you lack killing powers ( like huge burst or MS effect ), try 2s with a Arms warrior or a Marks hunter, you'll feel a difference: you make the other team miserable with stuns and silences while your partner kills.
