warlocks are pretty self sufficient, they handle their own mana and health, their pets can tank stuff etc.
they don't need much support so you can play anything that takes your fancy. a dps would make it all quicker. a tanking class might make elites a bit easier. a healer probably wouldn't help all that much but all healers have DPS specs.
not a clear answer, sorry ^_^

doesnt have to be a blood elf, you the 2 people linked by RAF can summon each other to wherever they are :O
He could be a tauren and still do the Belf starting quest without having to walk
You do know Ritual of Summoning is a lvl 20 spell, right?
GL getting to Silvermoon as a tauren!
Edit: crossed out since I misinterpreted it

Make a second Warlock. Double minions ftw! Priest / Druid / Shaman / Paladin are also always a good choice.
If you plan leveling in dungeons you might want to be a class capable of healing and/or tanking so that you get into queues faster.

I tend to believe that Warlocks are versatile enough that they can cooperate with pretty much any class. There are some drawbacks to each choice, though.
My wife has played both a Shammy and Paladin with my Warlock. Both were useful in their own ways. The Shammy has some nice totems which can give you some better HP/mana regen. And any class with the ability to heal and resurrect is nice. I have been working with her on her Paladin (the one she chose between the two) to build up her tanking skills a bit, trying to steal aggro. It has become a fun game for the two of us. We have gone into areas designed for characters at higher levels than we were at, and been able to do just fine most of the time.
Be aware of one thing, though? If you choose a more melee class, then you will either need to keep aggro, OR accept that you will frustrated at times that he is drawing aggro from you and/or sometimes fearing the mobs off of himself. Which, makes it harder for you to be participatory in fights. (This &*!@ed my wife off a lot, until we figured some things out together)
Consequently, you may want to consider a ranged class. A Shadow or Disc Priest, a Hunter, or even a Mage. (
Though people might fear the end of the world if they saw a mage and warlock working together! 2012 is just around the corner
) Shamans and Druids do have some ranged ability, as well.
One important consideration is gear. If you play a fellow cloth-wearing caster, then you and your Warlock friend will be almost always rolling against one another for the same gear, while all sorts of leather, mail and plate goes to waste.
Along the same lines? Try to pick gathering professions which won't place you in competition with one another. If one of you becomes a miner, then the other ought to go for herbalism or skinning. Yadda. My wife chose Jewelcrafting along with my Engineering. And so consequently, we both get about half of the ore we could for our chosen professions, when we're out together.

Oh yeah... I probably use Searing Pain less than I use Hellfire. Mostly, I keep it on a tertiary spellbar. If a mob breaks for the Healer, I hit it with Death Coil and then Searing Pain, and run for the Tank. ;-)
But then, I did change my questing rotation (when with my Pally wife) for Destro to: Curse of the Elements -> (Pally Pull, magnified by CoE) -> Immo -> Chaos Bolt -> Conflagrate on top of CB's hit -> Incinerate.
That Burst was enough to steal aggro most times. And if not, then following Incinerates did. IF it lived past the combined CB/Conflag.

Excellent point. Healer also equals a near instaque. Though, both roles would be more demanding. And, naturally invite more blame, whenever ANYTHING goes wrong... even if it's not your fault.
(And, I'm thinking it's probably easier to get decent Healer gear for most classes along the level grind towards 80, than it is to get Tanking gear. But I might be wrong)

Im sure that as a different race other than blood elf you cannot do there starter quests, as in around levels 1-5, i went back on my undead to do them for rep and found out i couldnt do any in Sunstrider isle. Though for some reason i was able to do the 1-5 quests for tauren/orc/troll for rep later. It may just be due to it being introduced in TBC.
