Surely anything that exposes someone to more and varied vocabulary cannot help but improve both their writing and their speaking. You are being exposed to words which in some extremes you have never heard before and in contexts which you didn't know about. Therefore, you'll find yourself, at times, using those same words in the same contexts both whilst speaking to other people and when having to write things.

Correct - assuming that we also posit that the person comprehends the meaning of the word, or undertakes to do so (i.e., they look up the definition if they don't understand it).
Reading has a direct correlation toward increase of vocabulary, which in turn has a direct impact on speech.
