Starting to gear up prot...

So, i've played my pally as holy for quite a while, and honestly, i'm kind of sick of healing.... and I really feel like i'm not as good at it as I should be.... so I want to change my paladin ret/prot. I figure I can heal my way through heroics for enough badges to buy him the gear he needs to tank with, but the problem is.... what pieces do I invest in?
I looked all through the helpful threads, and there's nothing up-to-date for gearing a protadin from the ground up (which is what i'm basically doing now). I have a JC alt, and there's a blacksmith in the guild so things like titansteel shield wall and titanium earthguard ring won't be hard to get to start off with... so we'll go with some easier questions:
As far as triumph gear, which t9 pieces should I invest in, and which off-set pieces should I go for?
Is the
Peacekeeper blade
the best tanking weapon prior to the new dungeons?
What about trinkets? Is the trinket from regular Halls of Lightning still worth farming for, for the defense rating boost?
Also, a more technical question.... is it possible for a tank to have too much expertise? There's a pally tank in my guild that has somewhere around 41 expertise with the
SoV glyph
active.... is there a point where it comes to too much?
if this info
really is
in a thread, and I simply just missed it, then I apologize, but thanks ahead of time for all the help.

I'm sure the info is somewhere but I'm bored and tired of working.
If you looking to gear up purely from badges I'd go with 4/5 T9 with the 245 head as offset. Stam trinket from ToC and maybe the defense one from Ony10/25. Peacekeepers is fine as a starter weapon.
41 expertise seems excessive and he's probably lacking in some other stats somewhere because of it. But that being said it's not useless since it still eliminates parry to some extent. I'd stick with 26 minimum and look for improving stats elsewhere.
My biggest tanking problem is my shield - still running with the shield from Ulduar 10 as I have never seen the one from ToC10/ToGC10 drop EVER. Every bloody alt tank in my guild at least has the 232 one :( If you can get the one from there great otherwise the one from CoS hc will do fine as a starter shield.
See stickies
for enchanting and gemming instructions, hit caps, defense minimums, rotations and diminishing returns on dodge and parry.

Most raid bosses don't cap it until ~56 expertise, so it's still quite useful. Whether it's entirely worth it depends - it's still fairly good avoidance and of course some threat/damage.

I think it's 54 actually, either way, don't go over 50and don't go under 24 and you should be fine

thanks for all the information guys.. i'm already well on my way to picking up my 2nd piece of tanking t9, and i'm working on getting the lucky old sun and some other things from dungeons... (the black heart comes to mind right offhand)..
wowhead never ceases to amaze me with how awesome it is.. one more question right offhand... Is the valor badge bracers worth getting, or is there somewhere else I should look to for tanking bracers?

First trinket:
The Black Heart
normal trial of the Champion
Second trinket:
Ick's rotting Thumb
Heroic Pit of Saron
Skip the dodge trinket, it's terrible for most purposes. Get the
Glyph of Indomitability
instead, 50 badges is well worth it.

I'm sure you could obtain a Saronite Swordbreakers easily now that Crusader Orb is affordable~
edit: took out the tags, can't link item for some reason;p
You can craft the bracers for ~1200g on my server buying all the mats. certainly worth it imo as you wont see better till ICC
