Here's a little tip on how to get some really nice mileage off of that trinket... drop your flametongue totem, proc the SP buff on your totem (gear slot totem), pop the talisman and put your earth shield on the tank. When you do this your shield will gain all the SP you just acquired and retain it until all charges expire.
As for the original question I would have to agree with echuir... replace the broodmother. The proc on that egg is still quite nice indeed

What do you mean with that? My gear slot totem doesn't have any proc :)
I'm assuming you're using either
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47665
or
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50464
both of which have SP procs
those 2 you have equipped now are the best to equip (compared to the other ones).
you can get totem of the calming tides (
http://armory.wow-europe.com/item-info.xml?i=47665
) from badges. Get that. Crawshavi is referring to that but the point he is making is kinda out of context.
He means that the amount of spellpower you have atm determines how strong your earthshield is. If you are a dedicated raider you will find yourself not often in the position to pick out the times to cast ES when it suits you the best though :)
Before a pull would be a good example of a perfect time to do that. After the first one just use talisman when it comes off CD and reapply to the tank when all buffs will be rolling again.

No it wont. You get most of your spellpower buffs from the other people in the raid. When they stand still you dont have them. Also you might have some procs like the revered/exalted AV ring and other spellpower buffs from items and players. Other then that your ES will not make the difference. It does help but if the tank dies its not because you didnt use your trinket before you casted it. Yes, its a good idea to refresh your shield just after you used the trinket but its not something you should focus on because there are just to many other factors/buffs/spells/boss abilities/fight mechanics that makes this "irrelevant"
Huh? You're saying 977 SP added to your ES before a pull won't make a difference (calming tides + flametongue + talisman)? If you just shrug off that much SP then I'd hate to see how you evaluate potential gear upgrades.
I also don't raid with any class that provides a SP buff as we don't have a Demo lock or Ele Shaman... since when do we get most of our our SP from 'items and players'? Most all SP buffs apply to damage only such as
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=48511
and
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=31583
. Last time I checked our Earthliving weapon and totem are a major source of our passive SP, not rings and warlocks. Also, I never said to focus on it, I was merely pointing out a quick way to get the most mileage out of that trinket with minimal effort. I never said it was a critical part to raiding and that you would suck if you didn't do it.

Assuming you're going to seriously use Resto spec you're going to want a set for mana sustaining and another for healing throughput. For mana you want talisman + eye, for HPS you want egg + eye.
