Seed vs RoF

Looked through the first page, didn't see any discussion on the topic.
I know the rule of thumb here is "Seed of Corruption for Affliction, Rain of Fire for Demo and Destro."
I'm just wondering what has changed here. I'm running 0/13/58, abut 3000 spellpower, 26% character sheet crit and 650 haste. I've started to use Seed of Corruption and it seems to be really good even for Destruction.
Just as an example of what I'm seeing, I used both RoF and Seed in a recent DTK heroic. Seed had 154 hits with an average 2860 damage, and 73 crits with an average 4420 damage. RoF had 144 hit with an average 1960 damage, and 86 crits with an average 4140 damage.
So a couple things. One, I remember (at least I think I remember) a time when Seed of Corruption would not "hit" the target you cast it on. It would tick damage, and/or explode and hit surrounding targets. This no longer seems to be the case. If I cast Seed of Corruption on Mob 1 in a group of 3, it will DoT tick once or twice and then blow, doing the 2860 damage to Mobs 1, 2, and 3.
I notice that Seed is only getting 150% crit damage, as opposed to the Rain of Fire's 200% because RoF is a Destruction spell and affected by Ruin.
As far as cast time, with my stats Seed takes 1.67 seconds to cast, RoF is 4 hits over 6.68 (or one tick every 1.67 seconds). So the "speed" is about the same. However, I think Seed might be better here because of the ability to "pre-cast" the next seed.
Anyway, just thought I'd bring it up. It first caught my attention when a guildie warlock was casting Seed (as Destruction) in some ICC rep runs. But then when I looked at the damage meters and was relatively impressed I tried it out and started to look more closely.
My tactic for heroics when approaching a pack of 4 or more is to tab-spam seed through the group 4 or 5 times, then as the 5th-ish one is being cast I queue up the RoF circle and drop it on the group.

yes, it was a recent change with 3.3 to make seed hit the primary target. all specs now use it over RoF if the conditions for it's use are good.
as an aside, demo should have always been using SoC.

i usually tab through 3 or 4 mobs in groups of 4+ putting seed on them, then doing rof (like op said he does).
i too noticed a big difference in my aoe dps on trash doing this.
i haven't tried doing nothing but seed. . .it's always seeds followed by rof.
specs now use it over RoF if the conditions for it's use are good.
should i just stick with seeds, and ditch rof?

if seed is worth doing 3 times then it's worth spamming

i've never needed to pop my own seeds in 5 mans. the target only needs to take 1.5k damage. even a tank sneezes 1.5k

It hits the target you cast it on.
There isnt a no longer any point to tab-targeting with seed.
Just pick a single target that has enough other dps going into it to make it trigger quick enough and chain cast it.
The only down side to this is you WILL get aggro unless the tank is good.
