As one of those people who was desperately trying to bring up a new main before WotLK hit, I absolutely hated this event.
It was a good idea in theory though, and I would support if they tried it again with a better implementation (quest hubs being defended by the Argent Dawn maybe?)
There should also be a clear opt-out for those who play on PvE serveres especially to avoid this sort of ganking.

I had a great time during the zombie invasion; however, I do feel that it may have gone on a bit too long. The entire event was, what, 2 weeks from day of inception? But it was actually planned to go on much longer, and Blizzard ended it early because of the complaints.
I would expect that we'll see
some
sort of event for Cataclysm; however, I would expect it to be more of a PvE-oriented encounter, like fighting off attacking waves of fire elementals and black dragons.
Hmm, just as a thought: If they have it ready by third quarter next year, perhaps the joke about the summer scorchling being an avatar of Rangaros won't be a joke anymore... ;)

Simply said:
"zombie event was a great fun and all people who QQed bout this event made it even more fun"
What did y'all QQers thought? that Lich King will send an group of fluffy carebears upon us? that his armies will stop just because of your crying? After all this event was a preludium to WRATH of The Lich King not to his kindergarten piniata party.
And personally i dont see any reason why Lich King shouldnt launch another invasion since attack is a best line of defence.

I think they learned their lesson, it won't be back. At least not in grieftard mode that it was when they did it the first time.
Sorry, any game mechanic which can be used to grief other players is just wrong.

Or maybe the loading screen could have a zombie themed look, explaining the event for everyone, and telling how long it will last. If they did that, everyone should be happy, those who don't like it could either stick it out, bg ( even though there will probably be zombies there too, ) or they could just log out, if I'm not mistaken
it only lasted about 3 days.
Two weeks. And it got increasingly disruptive every day. It was originally planned to go on longer, but due to players using it to grief and abuse lower level players, it was shortened. I understand it's a "one time event" etc. etc. that doesn't make it OK to use it as an excuse to make the game unplayable for people who just bought the game.
And yes, I agreed the concept was cool. If there had been a way to make it an even playing field so it didn't become an event of log-in, die, corpse run, die, repeat then it might not have been necessary to cut it short.
"Log out for the duration of the event" hardly seems fair. People who just got the game paid for a month of *playing* time same as you. Telling them to eat the cost 2-3 weeks of game time because some idiots get off on killing questgivers and griefing level ones is not an effective business model. Obviously Blizzard realizes this, because they put a stop to it.

Two weeks, wow I was waaay off. As for the log out for the duration, that was because I though it was 3 days. They could shorten it, and make it phased. Make a short quest line for it. People who don't want it can continue questing, while those who do can do it with others who actually want to run around being a zombie. A better way would be to make it phased, and make it a daily to phase yourself. Then if you want to switch back, there can be another daily, for instance, "Cleansed by the Light" or some %^&*. I think that would work for everyone.
That's actually a brilliant idea! Massive world-phasing quests hadn't been used much at that time IIRC. The biggest one added to the game was the Wrathgate event as I understand it, and phased questlines were used extensively in the Death Knight starting area. I remember loads of people hitting the wrathgate questline early on and there being lots of comments in trade chat "WHAAA! I am in org and there's no AH, and I can't see anybody? HALP!"
Now that phasing has been implemented in game and seems to be in a stable form, this would be a practical way to make the zombie event enjoyable for those who want to do it, and yet make it possible to level an alt without spending 2-3 weeks as a ghost.
Maybe on PVP servers the zombies could have more wide-spread effect since people who play on a PVP server expect it already.

Case and point, if I were starting on WoW during Hallow's End and I was playing in Tirisfal Glade or Elwynn Forest, I would *not* have played more than ten minutes before turning that $%^& off, because the headless horseman was the single most annoying thing I had ever heard while questing EVER.
Totally agree. During the Hallow's End event I made a new character on a different server. I got to hear the Headless Horseman's rhymes every few minutes for far too long, I was getting really
really
sick of it.

I did not like the event.
I would accept its return, if players turned into zombies became npcs and lost all control of their character (i.e. you really become a mindless slave of the lich king) until it was killed/cured.
I suspect becoming a zombie wouldn't be nearly as appealing then. It would be a horrifying, annoying experience that you would try to avoid.
THIS!
My two cents, there were no actions available to the players except try to remove disease or combat. Unlike the opening of AQ where even the lowest of levels could hand in stacks of linen and peacebloom for the war effort.

The zombie invasion was one of the most irritating events to ever grace WoW.
The idea behind it was neat, but the amount of whining and crying from both sides of the fence got on my nerves.
'baww stop cleansing me I want to be a zombie and have fun!'
'baww stop killing all the questgivers as a zombie/killing me when I'm trying to quest!'
...SHUT! UP!. Thanks.
So yeah, no thanks on bringing it back.
I thought it was the most fun event ever, on both sides. Fight against the zombies as long as you can, then become a zombie and try to make as many zombies as you can.
It was only horrible if you visited the official forums during this time.

seriously guys, 20 paladins in southshore fighting with everything they got against hordes of zombies > your mom.
WTF is wrong with you? We have this phasing thingy ya know. If there is NO solution at all just phase lower lvl's. TADAAA! And don't start with "oh,mom i r no doing loremastar bwaaaaaaaa". You can live without a tittle for 2 days more.
