I used to like it back in classic WoW when Alliance had Paladins and Horde had Shamans
THIS
is the time when Blizzard had it right, im not sure if Activision buying a major or total share in Blizzard had a " total cash emphasis " or not ?
Since around that period of Blizzard finding a parent company its been all changes to this game where its been based on money and profit, sure it opens up new avenues but they have shot themselves in the foot in regards to origins of WoW.
Things They Got Wrong
-
Tauren Paladins
is just stupid, however Blizzard try to twist this with their storyline authors etc it sounds stupid, Tauren are shamanistic - they are not holy light affiliated and never should have been.
You really are ignorant. They have the shamanistic view of the paladin being the worshippers of the sun, not the light, like how troll druids don't actually worship shadow/light.
-
Horde Paladins & Alliance Shamans
- Sure players complained about the other faction having that other class but it made the factions unique, it made the factions different and have a different feel, it gave that Tribal ( Horde ) vs Capitalist ( Alliance ) theme which was great.
I agree I like the Tribal vs. Capitalist theme, however I felt it made it to easy to say "Alliance are better then horde" because of dumb people who think anyone who is different is evil. The mayans had skulls on their altars, however the christians killed almost every last one because they worshipped different invisible men. Who sounds more vile? Also, balance issues. Soon as Paladin > Shaman Allies win the battlegrounds, or vice versa.
-
Horde having an attractive race -
Why did they HAVE TO have an attractive race ? Its not reason enough to give either faction a race because they wanted an attractive race !
Yeah, well, I don't mind having blood elves, but they should've been a little less attractive. Stupid anime like figures.
Sure the Paladin / Shaman thing may have been a major contribution to the race selections but i always liked Horde having the " rough, beast, tribal " feel.
Seconded, however if you look into Blood Elf lore, they seem to be not vile or rough or beast, but incredibly vain and selfish. I believe it's a good concept, but not good for the horde.
-
Redesigning Classic Alterac Valley -
This was the one battleground which was a war, it felt epic in the beginning, it was great, i used to love seeing Ivus The Forest Lord summoned, it was a special moment getting Ivus and excited everyone, collecting quest items in a BG actually meant something too !
Not arguing 'gainst this.
-
No Female Major Antagonist -
Its all been males from Ragnaros to Illdan Stormrage to to Arthas Menethil to Deathwing - why couldnt Queen Azshara have been the antagonist ? Im not saying its sexist but they dont seem to think females can hold power in high places of evil opposition, yeah ok Sylvanas is there but im talking about a raid boss like Arthas.
Okay, you're dumb. Sylvanas? Windrunner? She is one of the most heroic characters of all time! Not an antagonist. Ragnaros and many others, are theoretically genderless, being they have no real anatomy. It just has a deep voice. Queen Azshara is one of the main bosses next expansion. Onixia was a main boss.
-
Arena -
Well this just ruined PVP for me, Battlegrounds should have been the top tier of PVP, Arena is decided by FoTM classes and thats how its always been, BGs arent the same because they offer a far wided selection of players and classes, objectives and challenges - Arena is just a deathmatch that FoTM wins.
Oh god, you're bad. I enjoy arena because it finally feels like you have a TEAM, and have to work as so. In a BG, it's a mindless 40 man AOE spam, get to said objective, done. You don't need to focus on disrupting heals, because one of the other 40 will do it any ways. Arena at top levels has almost nothing to do with being overpowered.
Now its just a race, Blizzard ruined AV, its nothing to what it used to be sadly.

2. Make the classes have a purpose and stop making every blasted class able to do every blasted thing in the game. Priests should dominate heals period. Warriors and DK's should dominate tanking and Rogues should dominate front end dps. If the class is doing something outside the area it dominates (is meant for) then make them weak as hell. Give each class a real purpose and have it so that people actually have real, legit roles for each class and a group depends on each class to be truly powerfull. I am tired of seeing a group made up of 5 pallies and 5 Dk's, or 5 druids and a smattering of other classes only there to fill in the numbers. Give the damn classes a reason for being that class! (emphasis added by me).
Unfortunately blizzard has explicitly stated that they wanted to avoid this setup (which still existed to a good degree in BC, vampiric touch/shadowpriests, ust for one example).
As the company pushes market expansion into non-traditional video game or mmo players as far as it can, they inevitably homogenize the product (game) to appeal to the broadest possible spectrum of possible players. This may be excellent business if the wotlk paying sub numbers support it vs. historical growth and numbers for wow, and you can even see a fair amount of support for various simplifications here on wowhead, which is representative of a far narrower spectrum of player.
One of my larger gripes with lvl 80 content at release was the silly ease of heroic 5-man content (I made a thread about this earlier this year)- groups in quest blues would burn down instances full-aoe, full-blast, due to the big changes in threat generation by tanks (intentional and stated to be so by blizzard) and lack of almost any mob pulls which, taken without cc, would wipe a group (reduction in avg. mob dmg as % of tank health I bet you). In BC, heroics were serious business as far as making pulls correctly, cc'ing mobs, etc.,unless you just overgeared the instance silly. There were heroics so hard you couldn't get groups for them even before kara dropped boj's.

Never finishing Westfall Inn's roof.
I totally agree. Every time I visit Sentinal Hill I can't help but want to pitch in, because those poor workers have been at that roof for 4+ years and I've seen no progress at all.
they just need some more stimulus money,,

Onyxia?
Specifically i meant the end game antagonist, the character the factions meet at the end of each expansion - Illidan or Arthas for example.
Also i dont think Onyxia was the end game boss, she was high up there but not end game
You used Ragnaros as an end game antagonist, which he is not (Technically it's Kel'Thuzad.)
There has only really been 3 major's as you say, and with many femal mini bosses in between. I think we're fine.
