hate does or has played a large part in most religions. For example, Christians are almost unanimously opposed to homosexuality.
I've got plenty of gay friends, you honestly believe I hate them? Certain Christians hate gays, not Christisanity.

But the equation given was not "religion = hate" it was "Religion = hatred(most of the time)"
I do not think all religion is hateful, or even a majority. His equation should have been (Some of the time) not most. I cannot imagine a Buddhist Monk being hateful at all. Nor a Shinto or Unitarian Universalist. So many religions are great, they advocate peace and understanding and acceptance. These include Christianity that is found in the New Testament as well as Islam in the Koran. The problem with religion that I see is that it is so easily misunderstood and manipulated to malicious intent.
Edit: Also, forgot to mention, I completly disagree with the statment "Christians are almost unanimously opposed to homosexuality." There have been many "general assemblies" of various christian denominations and in many of them this past summer(all the ones I know of) approved accepting Gay and Lesbian clergymen.

The noun hate and hatred mean the same thing...
And no, the equation should have been "religious people are sometimes hateful."
As I said in my first post: religion is extrinsic to the person, hatred is intrinsic. Trying to equate them is like mixing apples and oranges.

Folks, let's not forget the original purpose of this thread.. to laugh at the people who take their religion too far.

I completely agree with you that religions themselves are, in general, not hateful. I say in general because I'm sure there have been religions in the past that have been thankfully lost to time that were all about hatred and violence. However, I still stand by my statement that religions are just too easily abused and manipulated to maliciousness.

I think we've made progress. I'm too tired to go any further anyways.

I have to say, I am a Christian but people like that are what make us look so bad. I mean HONESTLY? I hope that is a satire site, because if it is real there is something seriously wrong there.

With such alarming facts, all parents must beware that the advertising executives of Blizzard, WoW’s parent company, are releasing a new game named World of Warcraft Cataclysm.
This game promises more violence and addiction to the dark arts and new ways to murder people in the guise of online avatars. AWESOME, SIGN ME UP!

Other way around. Christianity hates gays, certain Christians don't. According to the Bible, homosexuality is an "abomination" (no Forsaken comments kthx) - more modern-minded Christians can think past this. Doesn't change the text though, does it?

If you wanna argue that, come visit on another forum (if you can't find "seebs" on a forum where that's topical, you suck at Google). At this point, I have not seen a good argument that the original texts from which the Bible was translated even
refer to
anything that a modern psychologist or biologist would call "homosexuality". At all. Ever. If you wanna argue the point, feel free to look me up. (Best bet is talk rational.)
So, uhm. . Only a serious discussion of that is pretty far off-topic, so come play elsewhere. :)

...Yet no word as to how today I, a Paladin under the Holy Light, purified the halls of Gundrak today, or a Rogue serving under the beliefs I chose, slayed the Black Knight, a servitor of the lord of the undead.
Nope, only preaching demonic worship, with no back-up.
No, not even mention of Warlocks or Death Knights, even though they now fight for a different side.
Yup.
Welcome to Organized Religion, folks!

...wield bladed weapons to violently bludgeon adversaries to the point of death.
Because everyone knows the proper way to use a bladed weapon for maximum effect is to strike with the hilt.
Remember that just like pornography, violent games are drugs for the mind. They will addict your child and then lead them to a lifestyle of violence, depression and then death.
Hmmm, I have been playing violent video games since I was 7. I have been loving porn since I was about 13. I am neither depressed nor near death. My friends would tell you I'm the most pacifistic person they know.
Theres nothing more evil than blind ignorance and faith.
From the comments section. QFT.
This game has resulted in people turning to prostitution and murder.
I only wish we could still have witch hunts. It’d take care of them Wiccans and probably people who helped came up with the idea of this game.
Funny how Christianity moved the days of their celebrations to more closely match those of the old Pagan religions. Christians forced Pagans to convert, and conversion was made easier by keeping the times of their celebrations similar. A Christmas song comes to mind that says something like "...and Jesus Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day." Umm, no he wasn't.
Christ's birth would be on the 28th or 29th of September in that same year.

Every religion has what is known as the Golden Rule in Christianity. It makes sense. Secular Humanists such as myself know that the world would be a better place if everyone would just live by it.
In the words of Carl Sagan and before this thread gets locked: "It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."

If one was to get technical, it was the Old Testament that said that. However the New Testament has something a bit different. I believe it's "Love thy neighbor", or Love everyone around you. Including those who you view might be doing "wrong". And last time i checked, that was the second commandment gave by Jesus, who by the way was a guy who hung out with prostitutes and thieves and whatnot, which I daresay alot of religious Christians wouldn't be caught dead doing.
And I'm fairly certain that if Jesus showed up today, as he did in the New Testament, all of the Christian zealots and extremists would hate him, just like the Pharisees did back in that day.
