The judge, at least it seems to me, $%^&ed up. There's a reason there's a variable range of punishment, so that the judge can put harsher or less harsh sentences depending on different circumstances.
Anyways, I think prisoners deserve TV. They should be able to know what's going on in the outside world. Even when the conditions in prison were worse before, there was still radio, it just lets those who will eventually get out think about the future and hopefully try to reform themselves when they'll eventually rejoin society, which is the goal of prisons (IMO) for those who aren't serving life sentences.

I don't think it is a specific country *pointz at America* because I am not American and think the jail system is too fair on prisoners.
The western world in general needs to grow a backbone and punish people who deserve it!
Or...I think that anyway.
Edit: So mediator, do you think prisoners deserve to catch up on desperate housewives for breaking the law and in serious cases, breaching human rights? I certainly don't.

There's a difference between needing to be sent to prison, and needing to be sent to a mental institution. Off topic, but almost on topic.

I think he deserved life in prison, tbh.
The point of going to jail is to be punished for the crime you committed and to be exiled from the public.
They don't deserve tv and radio, etc.
If they hadn't have broken the law, they wouldn't be in jail.
They deserve what they get.
If someone jumps out in front of your car to kill them self, if they live or die, you are still the one who is punished legally. Under your scenario if someone jumped in front of your car, became brain damaged for life, then the 'innocent' driver MUST be given a LIFE sentence.
Sounds fair to me...

I find it quite sad that so many of you focus on the people that do horrible things or fail to put yourself in their place.
Vikey, what happened to your mother was awful, however, the man in no way deserves life, it's not as if he wanted to hurt your mother, he simply was irresponsible and the police were unable to find out he was drunk driving before he hit your mother, he did not actually mean to hit her, and now that he has spent his ten years in prison, he will probably think twice before driving drunk again. Also, gorefiend, vikey does hold a grudge, or at least is unable to put himself in the man's place, because the man, while he was being irresponsible, could just as easily have made it home and had nothing ever come of his drunkenness, instead his lowered reflexes led him to crash into vikey's mother, an accident, possibly one which could have been avoided, but an accident nonetheless. and vikey's post that he wanted the man to serve life seemed like, to me, a rationalization for the bitterness and anger he feels at the man for harming his mother instead of an unbiased belief that the man deserved life in prison.
Yes, they did break the law, but IMO, people who do so should not be punished for the sake of punishment, this is an immature response, what we should strive for is that they can eventually return to society and learn from their mistake, rehabilitated and ready to live in lawful society again. Also, as has been said, people in prison still
do
need to keep up with society and be entertained in some way, because the purpose is not their punishment, their punishment is a method of reforming them into law-abiding citizens, not a way for society to exact its revenge on people, and those who are unable to be reformed should be removed from our society beyond hope of return, but still treated as human beings and given some entertainment and comfort, because their imprisonment is
still
not for the sake of punishment or for society to exact its revenge, it is for the protection of those who
do
obey the law so that they are not placed in danger from these people. Revenge is not justice, no matter how much it may feel like it for you.
