Well this argument can go both ways. For pro drug legalization (When I talk about this I will use Marijuana because its more likely) you have the HUGE economy stimulus for the taxing and the companies that would be formed which in turn would make jobs and such. Also in a certain country in Saudi Arabia, (I'm not sure which one, sorry) Marijuana was legalized and the after effects aren't half bad. Economy was boosted and crime rates where down. So added to the industry is less people in prison which is less people who live off tax money.
On the anti drug legalization side is the morality of letting people poison themselves with drugs. However people already do that anyway. So this argument goes one way for me. I'm not sure what I would say if this wasn't hypothetical, but while it is I say O.K.
What do you mean a country in Saudi Arabia?
And welcome, cilyarome.

Most of those people can't sleep without patting themselves on the back and telling themselves they did the right thing.

I made an account just to say one thing.
All drugs should be legal. The government nor you have no right, whatsoever, to tell ME what I CAN and CAN'T put in MY body. The only thing the government should have control over is matters of public safety. Doing any drug doesn't harm anyone except yourself. Drunk driving doesn't kill people because a person is drunk. It kills people because they are DRIVING drunk. Good thing I just don't care because I'm going to smoke weed for the rest of my life @#$%^es and you do gooders can't nothing to stop me. :D

Every year, an underworld thrives on child sex trafficing. If the government were to sanction child grooming for commercial consumption, the base of these industries would be swept off thier feet. They would go out of business. Applying the proper tax on the industry, and the lower amount of money paid on child protection services activities, the US could stand to make a large profit instead of deficit.
Other than in scale, Is that so different?Yes, it is. That's like if I said "I like apples," and you changed my sentence to say oranges. Just because the sentences are similar doesn't mean the ideas are. Two completely different things. One harms the person using the illegal thing, the other harms another person with the illegal thing.
If something has to negatively affect another person to be done, it should be against the law. If it can be done without negatively affecting another person, well, then it's up for discussion.

Have fun killing your self. You bothered to make an account, at least don't be such a moron. I am guessing that you are a teen, if so, you will one day regret this, I promise you. And drugs
are
harmful to others, you can put your hands on your ears and say that you are not listening, but that doesn't change the facts.
And parrazell, I agree with you.

I'm all for civil liberties as long as the people making the decisions are competent, properly informed and not infringing on the rights of others.
I'm also all for assisted suicide.
The problem with this is, most people who use cocaine, or most drugs for that matter, cannot be counted on to do this. making it legal would not change this.
btw if anyone here uses cocaine, i hope you go to hell.

Some things are illegal for a good reason, some are illegal for a bad reason.
Its down to people and the changing morals of their society as to whether something should become legal or remain illegal.
Mytie, your in favour of legalising Cocaine (and other hard drugs) on the basis that it allows for proper regulation and takes money from criminals and puts it into tax payers hands correct?
To paraphase your orginal statement, with a different illegality:
Every year, an underworld thrives on child sex trafficing. If the government were to sanction child grooming for commercial consumption, the base of these industries would be swept off thier feet. They would go out of business. Applying the proper tax on the industry, and the lower amount of money paid on child protection services activities, the US could stand to make a large profit instead of deficit.
Other than in scale, Is that so different?
Wow... yes it is. I am in favor if making cocaine a legal drug. Other crimes should remain illegal, though. Murder for hire, child endangerment, etc should remain illegal.
I really have yet to hear someone explain why it would be harmful to the country to make cocaine legal. The closest arguement was the opium wars arguement, but even that isn't really the same thing.
It really does give me confidence when someone changes my arguement. "I can't really argue against his points, so let me change his points, then argue against that."
Just to make perfectly clear, I am against child sex trafficing. They aren't the same thing. They really aren't. That is the second attempt to change the subject from cocaine use to having sex wtih kids though. Like another poster said... apples and oranges.
Edit: ASH and Ghoso - let's not blatently flame people.
