my thought on this is what if a new comer to the game, a complete new noob, and received this item by mistake
he didn't know what a ticket meant and thought this was part of the game and used it
what would then happen?
If you're stupid enough to think that something that kills everything within 30 yards is part of the game, I don't think you're ready to play MMORPGS.
i mean it says Cheater in the description

ok well if the goverment mailed me that........ bad things :) happen. now blizz mailing me the martin fury, gotta say i would have a blast running in ulduar and just destroying it. Blizz can go back and see everyone who ran with KC and just reset loots and take away the achievements. most people would have used this. i would not have even thought twice about using it. I would have ran into wintergrasp and used this thing whatever, be mad all ya want but if it had been given to me by a gm, and then banned for using it, i consider that entrapment. i would have just quit the game forever if blizz banned me for it. but guess what i went out with destroying ulduar instantly. now thats fun.

((posted this on the actual article as well, but I doubt anyone actually reads that updated article, since that would make you informed and able to actually post something with value))
100 charges on an item I received FROM Blizzard means I think they are giving me a gift for 4 months of lost play (Dec-April as mentioned in the interview).
If it had NO charges, then I'd ticket it after I noticed what happened.
But not everyone is an expert on GM gear, and for all we know, they didn't know this was one of the major GM gear pieces that everyone likes to talk about and compare to. I hadn't heard about this thing until about a month ago, and I don't even remember how I saw it on wowhead.
I see a perm ban as rediculous. But I also feel like the 24 hour account locks is a bit extreme too. On Earthen Ring, there is a guild of "hundreds" of people. I find it silly to ban everyone for 24 hours "just in case" there might be an issue. This game isn't a nuclear reactor, and nothing that is done in it cannot be sorted out from logs. So there is absolutely no reason to lock an entire guild.
Personally, I'd say that you contact the person in question after removing the item from their inventory, once they tell you how they got it, check to see if its the truth. If it is, educate them and if they really took advantage roll their character back, if they didn't, just leave it at that.
If they went haywire and used up nearly all the charges in a 2 or 3 day period, then some minor bans and a lot of character rollbacks. I highly doubt it costs $15 to roll a character back, and you'll make the profit back quickly by keeping them.
Anyway, it's never benefited anyone by pulling the trigger prematurely. Take time to investigate the issue. GM's are supposed to "police" the players, and I fail to see how Blizzards justice system has any sort of actual investigation techniques. Seems like its just ban first, and if they complain about it, look in the log until the first possible spot you can still blame them.

Abandonment
I think Blizzard said "Oh %$^% he's got an "I win" button, we have to take action even though we screwed up and make it look like it's all his fault" He got the powers of GM and he used them, would any of you have resisted the temptation to use it? I doubt it. It doesn't matter how good you think you are, when you get in the position that you have ultimate power, you're going to use it. I would have.
Blizzard screwed up, and the guy and his friend paid for it.
Nice job Blizzard, you screwed people over once again. /Clap

It was an overreaction on Blizzard's part. Though I can not be entirely sure of the honesty of Karate, he used an item sent by Blizzard to have some fun in Ulduar, and unintentionally set world firsts. He could have done alot more with it. He could've gone straight through everything, one-shotting everything, getting all the way to Algalon, one-shot him, take all the loot for himself, wreak havoc in Wintergrasp or something of the sort, going on his merry way.
Also, doing a guild-wide ban was far too much of a knee-jerk reaction. Yes, some of them were in on it, but innocent players got banned (though only temporarily) for something that they had nothing to do with.
Overall, it was Blizzard's mistake and Karate's poor judgement which turned this into a mess.

I would have send it to an alt and solo some instances with it for speedleveling purposes, maybe get into VoA and one shot both, that sort of things, not clearing Ulduar mega fast, rofl.
People who return wallets, are 100% honost in al what they do, nice for you. Sadly, most and including me arent like that. If I got the itemnobody would know, I would never use it for sombody else gain then myself. I would solo things like OS and VoA also for the money, solo some trash for the money etc.
With other words, I would have had fun while keeping the fun in raiding on my main cause I would never ever use it for profressing, I consider that warrior unbelievable dumb
