You people are funny (in a pathetic sort of way). Thanks for the entertainment, though.
Anyone who is QQing about how Blizz is unfair to ban these people, obviously has no clue how video games' ToS work.
Makes no effing difference whether the item was used or not. Blizz could have permabanned the guild for just
having
the item. Face it - Blizz can ban your account RIGHT NOW for NO REASON AT AT ALL, and (get ready, you know what's coming):
There's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING you can freaking do about it!
We can debate all day on whether the bans were deserved (or not), but the fact of the matter is Blizz thought so, and so they did it. Perfectly within their rights to do so.
I'm not going to be lame enough to give my opinion on whether the bans were justified (who cares anyways?), but I will say this:
The only way I see that Karatechop could've got out of being banned was to report it right away and not use it at all(duh). However, Blizz could have still banned him for doing that. Bottom line is that Blizz has control over your account, and if you don't want to get banned, then think FIRST before you do something ingame that may be a violation of the rules.
LOL U R DEBATIN U R STOOPID -_-;;
Of course there is nothing we can do about it, doesn't mean we can't voice our opinions. I see you recently joined, and I'm assuming this is your first internet forum, judging by this reaction you've had to this thread. This is just discussion. No one who has posted in here thinks for a second that what they say has any effect on what happens in regards to this situation. But thanks for the unwarranted insults. We appreciate it. Really.
I have pretty strong feelings about this, actually. I'm getting pretty annoyed at the people who just go "NOPE, HE IZ CHETUR. BAN HIM RITE NOW NO EXCEPTIONZ" I understand that he should have reported this issue to a GM and not have used this item. I get that. What I don't like is that people have shown themselves to be so far up their own butts that it's astounding.
No one, and I mean NO ONE, can say that they wouldn't do the exact same thing if the situation would arise. You may scoff and say "You don't know me! I'd open a ticket right away, thank you very much!", but you're lying. If you honestly opened your mail to find an item that insta-killed ANYTHING YOU WANTED, at the very very least, you'd have some second thoughts about not using it a little before you reported it. I, myself, would go to SWP just to look around and see the bosses.
I guess I'm pretty neutral on the actual situation itself; Blizz did what they see fit, and that's exactly what we sign up for when we join this game. But I'm amazed at how people are so eager to write this guy off as scum despite the fact that most, if not all of them, would do the exact same thing.

Honest mistake by Blizzard and nothing more to that? Wonder why KarateChop's first aid skill was showing up as 900 yesterday. Is it just a side effect of wearing the uber shirt? Looks like it's been wiped today - now it is showing as blank, but number of first aid books learned is still 16. Funny that.
As far as everything else goes...
the fact remains we did what we did for FUN!
It's not a fact, it's your opinion. What I see - and that's my opinion - is you and your guild taking full advantage of the situation and using the shirt to gear up. Plain and simple. That's why the ban is fully justified as far as I'm concerned.
If you were to zap one or two bosses in Ulduar, leave loot on the bodies, take screenshots, make a "kill" video, file a ticket and post the story online, I would be right with you on the whole FUN! thing. It's the extend to which you elected to use the item that makes me very unsympathetic.

Exactly everything he said.
@ Leroyspeltz: It would have been "fun" , had you not exploited it for Achievements, gear, etc, anything that other players actually have to work for.
Any
game where even 1 person cheats, ruins it for the rest of us, especially when you dismiss it with such a childish attitude. If you had any decency and honesty within you, your guild leader would have made sure Blizz knew about the item.
The fact that he admitted on WoWInsider that he didn't tell the rest of the group about your "fun" item in the instance, proves further that unfortunately you guys were in it for the fame, gear, or any reason other than a cheeky stab at the game mechanics.

I'm not reading through 4 pages of opinions, I barely made it through the 1st page.
How many of you took runs through instances you werent ready for yet? viola, the person that ran you was your trinket to one shot everything and let you get loot/ach.
It is the same thing, just on a different scale. Ulduar will end up being the ZA of BC once other raids come out. The same people that are clearing it now and saying "Naxx is srs bsns" were the same ones wiping several times on Naxx and posting their kills on here.
Just my quick 2c
We did try to raid Naxx40 when we were barely past BWL and wiped horribly several times. Does that count? Otherwise, no. Boosting is something that i think is a waste of time. If you're not gonna play your character, why bother?

Wait, you want Blizzard to admit they made a mistake that enabled you to exploit? Good luck waiting forever.

If someone handed you a $100 bill, you would spend it. If a blizzard employee sent you an item, you would use it. If the former person had robbed a bank and gave it to you, the police would not arrest you for grand larceny. If you used it to buy your friends presents, the police would not arrest everyone you bought something for.
Likewise, blizzard shouldn't ban an entire guild for using something that was given to someone by one of their own damn employees. Take away the item? Absolutely. Ban them? No. That's a childish tantrum style act.

Dude! You were just supposed to hold it for me, not buy a hundred dollars worth of Jr. Bacon Cheese Burgers!
But really, if it wasn't expressed by the original owner that it is now yours to do with as you wish, wouldn't you hold off on spending it until the matter was clear? If not, I would warn your friends not to leave stuff unattended around you.

You have got to be kidding me? Gearing up? We didn't even get that much gear, <clip> there was no real gear handed out, only as I stated before. . .FUN with an item I was given by Blizz.
Leroyspeltz
Well, what do you call looting gear from bosses and equipping it? KC's been stripped of a couple of non-Naxx pieces by the look of it, so it's kind of safe to assume those particular items were gotten during the shirt spree.
Even if your story is true - and if it is, I wonder where you got your account from or what hackers did to it that made a restore cough up that particular item - it is quite obvious that the shirt is not meant to be in the game. I definitely understand the temptation to see what it does, but taking out raid after raid is going too far. Warcraft is a game, but so are football, car racing and professional poker. Once a game becomes a multi-million dollar business, competitions grant thousands in prizes and teams get corporate sponsors, it is no longer "just a game" and some level of integrity must be maintained. Thus, suspensions for anybody who benefited or was even in position to benefit.

Ok I'll admit it. I multi-boxed the entire raid after I got my Dev's item.
That's right I AM Karatechop! Oh wait, I mean I'm in his guild. Err, I mean
I multi-boxed as everyone in the guild, so it's all my fault. Wait, what I
did wasn't wrong, so it's no one's fault. I mean...
Impostors GTFO.

If the item was received because of an error on Blizzard's part, then the situation becomes akin to a bank error.
If you went to the atm one day, and your account was up by say, $10,000, and you knew there was no justifiable reason for the money to be in your account, what would you do?
If you withdraw that money, you can bet your sweet fanny, that only problems are going to follow, because the bank will eventually find that error and correct it. Yes, it was the bank's fault that they deposited the money to the wrong account, however, it's also your fault for not bringing it to the bank's attention.
Sorry kiddies, but there is no such thing as "Finders Keepers".
