I personally see capital punishment a much more humane thing than life in jail
Most people placed in that position would disagree, as is shown by the rate of appeals.

The entire premise of your argument is flawed.
It is true, that life in prison is inhumane. This does not make capitol punishment any more humane. Nor does it answer my arugment that the government has no power to take a life.

I'm not saying life in prison makes capitol punishment humane, I'm simply saying capital punishment is more humane than the former.
You could argue with your premise that murder is more humane than rape, just because the rape victim has to suffer for the rest of his/her life.
I would question such a premise.

There both horrible yes, but with one you still have your life along with your friends and society to back you up.
Precisely. Despite life sentences being what they are, you still have a support network and a life. You can still experience. Would you rather die of a heart attack, or die of cancer?
The quality of life in prison is remarkably better than the quality of life while starving. I'd much rather stay on the deserted island with 3 meals a day than kill myself.

Simple answer to the 'Capital Punishment' dilemma. The Gallows, bring them back for even petty crimes. *sits back and watches crime rates plummet*

as cruel as this sounds, this wouldn't be a bad solution
since it would lower possible murders due to appealing to the criminals sense of fear instead of their remnants of humanity
This used to be my opinion. It makes sense, and I like it, except when you take into consideration government misuse of it. I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal at this point, but what happens when political dissent becomes a petty crime? It takes one bad law and one bad judge to then end someone's life.
I don't like the power to kill being in government's hands, due to the possibility of corruption.
However, I am a big fan of forehead branding and exile.
