By ganking i mean attacking someone much lower level than them or so much less geared than them that there is no fight my question is what enjoyment do people get in needlessly interrupting someone else who has no chance of fighting back? I think the best part is ganking with the Orb of Deception effect. Priceless imo :D

Consider it a baptism by fire. Ganking is a form of initiation especially on a PvP server.
If you can take it..it will make you a better fighter. I used to get mad but not anymore..its just part of the game. It's where guild loyalty and writing down names come in handy. Retribution is also a part of the game. I make no bones about getting even..it just as much a part of the game on a PvP server as questing and raids and just as satisfying.
Case point..just the other day I was heading into Onyx Lair for a run the guild 80's were running for lowbies alts to gear up. A horde 10 levels higher was coming out as I rode up and ganked me..and then proceed to spit and laugh and sit on my face...lol. He did this for about 2 minute..just as he was mounted up and ready to ride off laughing..the party came out and the DK yanked him off his mount and the party annihilated him. We then broke out the marshmallows and camped his azz while I did a war dance on his face. We did this for ten minutes..until his body turn to bones..meaning he took a rez sickness.( I know this because of an addon that would have told me he was alive had he rezzed nearby). Sweet revenge.
Another example. Wanted to run a small party of 70's through Kara and about 5 80's from one guild decided to camp the entrance for literally a 1/2 hour. It was an inconvenience to say the least.
Well I wrote down their names and we all got our 80's.
Had a relative who plays horde..tell me over the phone when they were on and where they were..we got our revenge. It's hysterical to watch the same toons who thought they were so bad prior..running away like sissies as we chased them down the whole night. Even when they logged..as soon as they came back on..we went after them. They must have been wondering how the heck we kept finding them or who we even were. We spent the whole night flying around Northrend chasing them.
Now some people might say that is an overkill reaction. To me its not. Its a way of correcting poor behavior and protecting your guild. Those idiots will think twice before bothering us again and to put it mildly it was extremely satisfying..almost equal to dropping a boss in Naxx for the first time. We were laughing and bonding and the whole guild was following our exploits..cheering us on. Even my horde playing relative got into it calling out positions.(what can I say..blood is thicker then horder) Like I said..it's all part of the game. Don't get mad..get even. :)

I have no problem with being ganked, I started on a PvP server and after dying about 10 times to a level skulls on one quest one day I realised it wasn't for me and so transfered, no problems, I'll PvP when I want to thank you very much.
However, what I do take great excpetion too is being constantly spammed by duel requests by oposite faction level skulls whilst I'm out collecting silverleaf on my L12 alt. Why do you even bother doing this?
I had someone follow me the other day for like 15 minutes, and I really really wish I could have talked to the other faction then to ask "WHY THE FRAK DON'T YOU JOIN A PVP SERVER IF YOU ARE SO SODDING UBER."
I was terribly, terribly vexed.

As the poster above proves.you can't get away from the idiots..so don't run..take the fight to them. After a few loses..those jerk offs will go back to crying in the BG's or nagging their guild for charity runs for better gear and eventually be brushed off to the point of not logging on anymore. Problem solved.

I do gank. A lot. I used to be carebear so I do understand all the whining here (albeit I do think it's silly), but this game is about war between horde and alliance (among other things). Don't like it? PvE servers are waiting for you.
And about the reasons for ganking...The thing is - I'm rarely indifferent towards enemy players, I either try to help them or gank them.
Sometimes I even log in just for the pleasure of ganking (especially lately) - no gibberish about honor and such, lowbie is as good as higher level, this guild same as that one, etc... Or I just chain sap people on my rogue and watch their reactions (AoE, /chicken, /y ...). All this is twice more fun if done in their bases, when they least expect. And sometimes I do it until they bring their mains for a revenge (but usually it becomes boring after five killing of the same player).
On the other side, helping horde and seeing them /ty is also made of win. Or being MCed and receiving stamina buff by a priest.
This is MMO, and interaction with other players are what make this game different from single-player games. And the way in we can interact are many - ganking being one of them.

When I was doing the midsummer festival last year I had a twitch reaction when I ran into an alliance guy and mashed Fire Blast. After he died in one hit I realized how low level he was and felt terrible about it for the rest of the night. =((((

Simply by looking at the number of people who actually joined just to post at this topic says how serious people take ganking.
It
IS
a game. Yes, there are people behind the played character - people that have chosen to play on PvP server. And whining that people get ganked on PvP server is like whining that people never turn on pvp flag on PvE server.
I'm off to find new spot for ganking, I already caused too many 80s being logged on my gankspot.

Agree on one point that if your going to play on a PvP server..stop whining.
As for it..just being "a game"..well if you were trying to play baseball and some idiot constantly ran across the field or playing chess and some jerkoff keeps knocking over your pieces..would you put up with that just because those are games too..obviously not.
I think that's the main point of most gank complainers. Those gankers who camp some one to the point of not allowing them to pursuit their enjoyment.
Like I said..as much as ganking is a part of life on a PvP server.so is getting even.
If your not in guild that's looking out for you..then join another guild.

I dont gank, well, unless people have their alts similarly named and i know theyve ganked me (yes, i have a list, for when i run across alliance).
Leveling in Outland, my old gm and I fought and killed 2 members of a known ally ganking guild in a fair fight (they snuck up on us and struck first, but we managed to kill them). For not "lying down and dying" like im sure they wanted, they instead brought 8 70's to camp me for about 5 hours
Sadly, im not joking, I couldnt level my main, all i could do was stare at a ghost until I had to leave for work.
So, because of that, i try not to gank.
I wont support Horde camping of alts, ive left a druid to die because he @#$%ed off what I think was a gm of an ally guild, cause about 4 allys came out of nowhere and roflstomped him
In general, i dont gank unless provoked
Why didn't you just take a rez sickness and stone out of there or log off..the body turning to bones is an indicator that the person has either logged or took a rezz sickness..they would have left after seeing that. 5 hours staring at a ghost...that's crazy.
