Sad thing is, as soon as I saw the advertisement was not a reaction towards the ad itself. My first thought was "my god, the QQ will be incredible".
Do I win an obvious fortune cookie?
Yes you do.
As for myself, I think that the Wowhead staff didn't do wrong. It's all business...if it was a pop-under no one would care. They just probably shelled out a bit extra for the full-page ad (these are just assumptions, ofc), and to keep such an awesome site running the ad's more than worth it.

Banners? Go ahead! YouTube like blocks of ads on the side? Sure thing! Giant Skin that completely covers the home page? No can do. Giant invisible link covering all the "white space" that a site normally employs? Bad idea. Giant invisible link covering every little crag in the text of your NAVIGATION? Website Suicide. What is happening here is plain and simple bad web design.
I don't know what you mean...
The ad is a border around the navigation. There is a square area in the middle of the page that doesn't click anywhere. The whole navigation area doesn't click anywhere.
Maybe its a bug in IE or something? Can you explain more what you mean by "Giant invisible link covering every little crag in the text of your NAVIGATION?"

Its obvious this complaining would happen. MMOs have fierce competition akin to football/sports in terms of consumers. Or politics. I think the end point is many feel like this is a cruel slap to the face. Its sort of an invasion of outside MMOs. If this was on any other MMO website, there would be no fuss, but with WAR on the frontpage of WOWhead, bad thoughts are gonna happen. I honestly don't care; its a little annoying, but I rarely go to the front page anyway, and its not stopping me from doing anything.
I couldn't have said it better myself. /cookie for you, too.

it's causing display issues and (site)navigational troubles for certain users.
I'd like to know more about these issues, can you clarify?

The amount of idiocy being shown here is shocking. I mean I'm fairly used to the ignorance and idiocy of people given what I do for a living and that I spend a lot of time on the internet but this is just absurd.
You came to WoWhead to get some info. You could have just typed in what you wanted, or clicked the link you needed and never even thought about the ad again. It has
zero
negative effect on you. If you don't want to play Warhammer, that's great, don't play it.
Some of you are showing levels of entitlement I thought were reserved for Paris Hilton. Slaps in the face? Insults? The makers of this site owe you nothing. You don't pay for this and you don't own it. It's a service, and a great one at that. You can use it and brush right past the ad.
Complete and utter failures, each and every one of you who complained.

I would clarify but I'm having no issues. I'm not sure what browsers or computers they're all using but the ad's giving me no ill effects...

I just find them obnoxious. It's distracting, a loud and noisy background when I'm used to browsing a clean, well-designed site.
I have nothing against advertising other MMOs on this site, and I realize that WoWhead has to pay the bills, but I do have something against annoying forms of advertising. This is only a tiny step up from pop-ups in my opinion.
echo this. All of this. I like WoWhead because it's got a clean interface and doesn't conduct first degree criminal sexual conduct upon my eyes. Now I can't say that.

Is it
that
bad? LOL, I personally prefer the look of WAR Orcs to WoW's (though both are cool, don't get me wrong), but I agree the Dwarf looks silly.
EDIT: Laeli, it may be your computer. I'm Firefox and mine's just fine =/

People come here for information on WoW. It is a -WoW- fansite. If they wanted to see full page garbage about Warhammer, they'd go to a Warhammer site or a general gaming site.
You wow idiot fanboys are all the same. Stupid as bricks. When you go to the wow forums you see ads about razor's and pizza. Did you go there to find out about what deal you could get on pizza or how many razor's Gillette has got on their blades now? No. It's called advertising, you dolt. And as a matter of fact...a warhammer advert on the front of wowheads site is *MUCH MORE* on-topic than most ads you see on the wow forums, so shut your pie hole.
Secondly, wow advertised the hell out of WOTLK on the warhammer alliance forums, noone there wanted to see any crap about carebear garbage-pvp wow but they spammed it on there anyway. The only difference is the warhammer community didn't cry like pathetic little girls about it.
Grow up and get your head out of your ass. This is a mmorpg-related site with mmorpg-related advertising. Go cry a river.

While I agree with a few of your ideas you don't have to be an ass about it. Some people are getting too worked up, after all, the internet is srs bzns...

@ WoWhead: Thank you for bringing me a free database full of everything I could ever want to know about WoW.
@ the Warhammer peeps: This really strikes me as a waste of money. You're coming to a site for a competator's MMO and expecting to get people to switch? MMO players are like console gamers in that whichever one they play is best and all the others are complete crap. In this case, the MMO gamers you are trying to reach are all WoW players who think every other MMO (Including yours) is crap, and molesting our eyeballs with that full page add is not going to do anything but encourage said view. That being said, thank you for supporting the site that supports my habbit.
@ WoWhead again: If a tacky picture gets you the money to keep bringing me this excellent site, so be it. Its not my favorite thing in the world, but if nothing else I understand its necessity. Thanks again and please keep up the good work.
Again: couldn't have put it better myself...damn, I'm running out of cookies

Do I count as a warhammer peep if I play both wow and war?
FYI blizzard advertised on the busiest and closest to official warhammer forum (warhammer alliance) with WOTLK ads long before WAR did it, so why don't you take the above question and send it to blizzard?
