Having done a fair bit of reading, I'm still stuck with my Hunter. I cannot consistently break the 2k personal DPS point, usually averaging around 1700. My personal DPS will often break 2K but won't stay there as it only happens fortuitously (eg good string of crits).
This is me:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Baelgun&n=Anansi
Glyphed with Steady Shot, Aspect Of The Hawk and Serpent Sting.
Usual shot "rotation" is Sting, Chimera, Arcane, Aimed/Multi with Kill Shot (followed by a Readiness and 2nd Kill Shot) when available and Steady to fill in the gaps. With regular use of Aimed or Multi I can get my personal DPS closer to 1800 but it's a heck of a mana drain.
I use a cat for Heroics (I'm not a raider).
Obviously my gear isn't great but I can't help but think my DPS is regrettably low regardless.
I have gone with stacking AP over AGI with my gems and enchants, maybe AGI is better for Marks? Conventional wisdom around here seems to be AP over AGI for MM but it's hard to get a clear read on that one.
Feedback is much appreciated!
Thanks.

What do I need to do to improve?
Ok dude, the first thing you should do is get
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37191
from Utgarde Keep (Heroic).
I'll let the others take over from here...

Well, I sometimes have that same issue, look at my armory (Look at my Sig. for name on my guy) and see what I have, try to get close to that and you can brake 2k. In Naxx, I do appx. 2.6k, lowest was 2.2k.
Gl, I would help ALOT more, but I have to go for now, so sorry.

My armory is in my sig. Im pretty happy with the set of gear I have atm, but I recently got a Betrayer of Humanity. I lose too much hit trying to equip it. I can always gem the hit but thats even more agility i lose. So I'm not sure which one to choose. Maybe you guys can help me out a bit.
PS: I prefer my hit rating at 231-236 rather than 263-269, I'm a dranei magnet
Sry to steal your thunder but 15% of your dps in your link from your sig is from Volley.....obviously not just Patchwerk dps.
But do agree with your stand on hit rating, I am at 251 and I never worry about hit food or gems; I just make sure I'm at at least 7% hit and I group with a Draenei.
Mate the link itself sets to custom split by itself, you can go to the boss fights and check with patchwerk. You will see 6194 there
Let me link the exact link so you dont get confused before it changes again :

I'm talking personal DPS, so not including my pet's DPS in my own. If I add in my pet I am pretty consistently (just) above 2k. My pet adds 325-375 on average to my own DPS.
Even with raid buffs (did my first ever raid, a 25-man OS) my DPS still stuck around the mid-1700s. It's like there's a wall that I'm not allowed to pass here.

Hey so I was just wondering if I can get some feedback or some opinion on my hunter. Well Im hit capped at 165 with 3/3 focused aim, but I was thinking if I should replace my agi gem with hit rating gem so I can be hit capped without the 3/3 focused aim and use those talents points elsewhere? Well any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would. Replace the +8 AGI/+8 Hit gem with a +16 Hit and your +16 AGI gem with the same Hit gem. It's definitely worth having the talent points elsewhere. Focused Aim is kind of like having neutralised talent points, and what you would gain from being hit-capped through gear alone, thus freeing those points, outweighs any residual benefit from AGI gems.

I'm curious as to what you think about my toon
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Llane&n=Prong
I'm just getting into the 10/25 man runs and have acquired a few pieces so far and I'm using the Raptor from Zuldrak for a pet. In a nut shell, I just want to push out as much dps as I can for my MM build.
What do you think?
Well, there's a few quick things I see off the bat.
Firstly, you should allocate some talent points into Focused Aim to help close the gap on the 8% hitcap.
Secondly, enchant some more of your gear, such as your bracers, with appropriate enchants.
I would also recommend enchanting your Polearm...
Also, what's your dps?
(BTW, if anyone wants to try to help me, my armory is in my user profile)

This is something ive wondered about the EJ spreadsheet. According to it, a hunter with my gear should see his pet (a cat) do about 1000dps when speced MM; or near 2000dps when speced BM. I'm MM and my cat rarely does more than 400.

this is me just some tips/ideas where i should be going would be much appreciated <3
Looks pretty good except for the chants. Are you PVPing with PVE gear? If you are serious about PVE, you need to replace all of those stam chants, and get the AP/Crit inscription for your helm instead of AP/Res. You should have agility chants on most of your gear, with a +stats on your chest, and Icewalker instead of stam on your boots which would put you at 260 hit rating, just 3 shy of the cap.
Your spec is good, and your gear is fine to start raiding. Just fix the chants for PVE and get a seperate set of gear for PVP.

Here is my info. Please give me some pointers. My dps is not a good as I would like. I am working on trying to get the pvp stuff replaced with pve and concentrating now on agility, which aint' bad, and hit rating which I need a lot more of. Let me know if my spec needs reworking. Thanks!

Well, you are using a ranged weapon designed for tanks rathered than ranged DPS. The defense rating is worthless to you, and the loads of stamina has very little usefullness as well. Also, the low base damage makes any special shots that are modified by weapon damage such as
Steady Shot
and
Aimed Shot
less effective. Either pick up the Nesingwary 4000 if you have the money, or run H UK for the Drake-mounted Crossbow.
The rest of your gear looks good aside from the handful of PVP items that you already mentioned. Your belt is best in slot right now, and those gloves will last you way into Naxx.
As far as your hit rating goes, it's right at the heroic cap but 65 shy of the raid cap. Depends on what you are running right now as to whether or not you need to try to raise it. I also see that you have 1 pt in Focused Aim which means you could either put a 2nd put in FA or pick up 33 more hit rating from gear to hit the raid cap. Eventually you want to get all of your points out of FA, and meet the hit cap strictly through gear, but you don't need to do that immediately.
There are a couple of things you could improve on your spec for pure PVE. You don't need scatter shot and you only need 2/3 in Expose Weakness to keep it up. Also, if you use the trapdancing spec (2/2 Survival Tactics, 1/1 Trap Mastery) like you have now, then you don't need any points in Sniper Training. 3/3 Sniper Training is the alternative to the trap dancing spec.
You want to move those points into Thrill of the Hunt (3/3 vs 2/3) and Noxious Stings (3/3 vs 0/3), and when you spec out of Focused Aim in the MM tree, move that into Improved Stings.

Hey thanks for the great feedback! I will look it all over and make the necessary amendments. I am just getting to heroics right now. Raids will be later, as my dps usually gets some snide remarks from the ones who were "born with the knowledge".
I am sure I will get there by and by. I just want to hold up my end in the fight.
Thanks again.
One other thing. What are you using for a shot "rotation?"

I need help...and big time. I know i dont have the full T7 sets, but I know my gear doesnt suck. However, the dps ratings disagree. Could someone tell me why my dps is only like 1.4 on average? heres my armory. I was bm hunter but i couldnt get into any raids because my dps was too low and when i switched to surv, it didnt skyrocket either, so heres my stuff and any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, your gear is solid exept for two things. 1) Your hit rating is low (you need 263 for raids), and 2) You could really use some new trinks.
With both those things in mind, i think you could really benefit from this
Sphere of Red Dragon's Blood
. The badge trinket
Mirror of Truth
would be a good choice for the other slot.
Some other things to help you with your hit rating would be the
Icewalker
enchant on your boots and the
Precision
enchant on your gloves. You could also use an
Elixir of Accuracy
when you raid.
Your spec could use a pretty serious overhaul. The BM talents you have don't really do anything for dungeon/raid DPS. Endurance Training is a soloing talent, and Improved Aspect of the Monkey isn't really good for anything. All you really need in the BM tree is either 1 or 2 points in Improved Aspect of the Hawk.
You are missing out on almost all of the good MM talents as well. 3/3 Careful Aim and 1/2 Go for the Throat are extremely important. You are costing yourself 375 AP alone by not having Careful Aim as maxing that talent will provide you with 1 AP for every point of Int. Go for the Throat is really important b/c it provides your pet with focus to perform their attacks. Without it they run out of focus and will just melee a large % of the time. I also like to get Aimed Shot and 3/3 in Improved Stings.
Sort of a similar story in your SV tree. Scatter Shot, Improved Wing Clip, and Entrapment aren't needed for PVE DPS. Noxious Stings is a good talent to have.
This is the spec that i prefer
2-18-51
For a shot rotation, i usually open with Hunters Mark then Serpent Sting to give the tank a chance to get a little threat. If i MD at the beginning of the fight then i open with Aimed Shot > Autoshot > Steady Shot.
After that you want your shot priority to be Explosive Shot > Aimed Shot > Steady Shot keeping your Serpent Sting refreshed when needed and using Kill Shot whenever its available.
For groups of 2-3 mobs, substitute Multi-Shot for Aimed Shot, and on any packs bigger than that just Volley.
Really, i would recommend reading the Endgame DPS/Mechanics Guide, and the Hunter Statistics Guide that are stickied at the top of the forum.
