Laptop for deployment

I'm set to deploy to Al Udeid Air Base and over the years its become of the Air Force's largest bases and provides reasonable quality wireless internet for folks deployed. I'm trying to find a laptop for my deployment but I'm not very good at getting much shopping and comparisons done on the internet.
I've tried getting in chats with Dell representatives but even blunt descriptions such as I need a laptop I can play WoW on while I'm in Saudi Arabia doesn't get much of a response. I've heard a few good things about the Dell Vostro series of business laptops. I like the idea of a 'business' laptop because it sounds durable, and considering where I'll be located, durability is a must. I'm looking for something on a reasonable budget $500-$1000 considering I won't be using it for more than the the 120 days I spend overseas.
So for you computer savvy people, could you help me out looking for a laptop that can play WoW at a decent framerate? I don't plan on doing ANY raiding while deployed, I think the most I'll be able to do is some pvp, leveling alts, and my daily toying with the AH.
Any help is appreciated, thanks to all that contribute :)

Budget laptops are fine for WoW, you'll average 10-20 FPS but it's still VERY playable. Budget laptops have very few differences from high end laptops, ask any tech person (main reason you're not "allowed" to open your laptop up).

well for some people 10-20 fps isnt very playable ;)
I have absolutely no problems raiding etc with it. The only time it gives me problems is in Dalaran (formerly Shatt) and that's only for a minute or so. If you want WTFBBQ graphics/graphics settings then no, 20 FPS is not playable :P

I really appreciate all the responses and the feedback you all are providing its been helpful. I'm not much of a specs or hardware person to be quite honest, I'm a mechanic by trade and I only have a slight amount of knowledge regarding this type of hardware.
I'm hoping I'd be able to play a zone like SoTa or EoTs at a reasonable framerate being about 15-30. Anywhere in that range where I won't lag for large group encounters would be outstanding.
I'm really liking that Gateway that you provided for me LostShard, it seems like it would be right at what I'm looking for and sits perfectly within my budget.
I'm getting some ideas together before I commit to a purchase so if you folks have any more suggestions I would be very appreciative.
Thanks!

Decent framerate will come from the video card/GPU of your laptop. Ram to make sure your computer does not have to slow down and finally making sure your laptop stays cool.
Well depending on what you get
Do Not
get integrated graphics card.
My suggestion
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4023064&CatId=1891
512MB GDDR3 Video Memory
3 GB Ram
2.20GHz Dual Core
Decent specs for something that falls in your budget
Agreed. This laptop is a decent price and it should handle WOTLK fine.

First of all, may I say that my 400 day deployment to Afghanistan (currently residing here) makes a 120 deployment to anywhere seem like a joke...after all, I'm army and it's my job to make fun of the other branches (even if 50% of soldiers wish they went AF).
My biggest suggestion before even bothering to buy a laptop is finding out how good your internet will be there, Afghanistan has crappy internet to the point where I havn't even tried a raid yet. Also, the virus are crazy, if you do get a computer, invest in a very good malware protection and install it before ever going over seas.
Finally, your right in not wanting a expensive computer, I doubt my laptop is going to survive the rest of the tour. If the dust is anything like Afghanistan in Saudia Arabia, make sure you have compressed air and a cooling platform for you computer. I blow my fans out every other day, but w/o the cooling pad, I would overheat in a couple of hours playing WoW b/c my fans were so full of dust.
Good luck, stay safe, and most importantly HAVE FUN! Gotta love the military...

You don't need a top of the line laptop, my cousin plays WoW on a mediocre(at best) laptop (he obviously want's a better one but thats unrealistic at this time), It would be good apart from the fact that its screwed up so many times with hdd failure etc. this was a compaq/hp computer. his first laptop from dell got broken a few times aswell and when they sent it back, the only thing connecting the actual laptop to the screen was the wires.
I have an 8800gt which I have tried in dalaran and I still lag like crazy
I have yet to try my 9800gtx+ in dalaran, but I expect it to lag. By the way if you can, make sure you buy wowtunnels.com it costs only $1 per month but its well worth it, it may make your ping better in saudi arabia and even if it doesn't it was worth a try and its only $1 dollar.
QFT because I am his cousin lmao.
I would love a new laptop/gaming computer, and I mean LOVE one but yeah, unrealistic at the moment
My laptop is a Compaq Presario C719TU, default OS is Vista Home Basic, but I have XP Pro on here now which runs much smoother. Basic specs is 1GB RAM (wouldn't mine 2 or 3GB however) and an Intel Dual-Core 1.4GHz CPU. Integrated Intel Mobile 965G Family Chipset, as usual.
Now, the integrated graphics are by far, not the best. But I've used this baby for some pretty hefty things and it's ran well in the past two years. It gets my design work done in Photoshop so I'm pleased about that.
As for gaming, I've managed to play The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and DOOM 3, both on low quality settings (most games I play are on those settings but I prefer gameplay over graphics). This game however (if using XP, I assume for Vista too) can run S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Battlefield 2, Command & Conquer and a few other games in low graphics settings to, so that can't be bad can it?
World of Warcraft does lag out sometimes, but this could be because I live in New Zealand and servers are located in South America (even with WoW Tunnels I lag sometimes). Over here we get an average of 500-600ms, and 400-500ms on a good day (without WoW Tunnels, with it the lag is reduced by half).
I get around 10-20 FPS and have gotten used to it, it is extremely playable. I honestly do not notice many differences from playing on 20 FPS compared to 40 FPS (though play below 10 FPS and you will notice a difference) but that's just me getting used to a crappy 20 FPS.
Shattrath used to lag like hell for me, now it's Dalaran for a few minutes. Most other zones don't, I don't play Battlegrounds much but they've never been much of a problem for me in the past. Never gotten to the point of doing Arenas, doubt it'd be that bad. Raids would probably lag me, no doubt, 5-man instances don't unless a godly amount of mobs spawn (and even then it doesn't happen often).
So as long as you get anything better than my laptop (or equal to it) then you should be fine! But yeah, get a goddamn cooling pad. Get one for anywhere you go, they're so damn useful.

i laughed out loud as i read through the responses....i got 10-20 fps on a normal basis....i never even thought about getting lower and there are people saying that that is unplayable LOL
my suggestion is to avoid mac's for gaming...they are high end for graphics and video but are HORRIBLE for gaming, the shared resource video cards just cant keep up with the games unless you plan on spending loads of money
my girlfriend has mid ranged mac around $1500-$1700 one, and it just cant handle the work load of wow
just my 2 cents

I suppose the ones that have mentioned could be correct about the OPSEC of this thread. I have no personal information listed in my profile, no ties to the server that could actually give out my name, rank, unit, or any other info that would put myself or my fellow airman at risk. Any other info that was provided is easily obtained in Google if people are that interested. I am following OPSEC rules. But for the sake of being more secure, I'll edit my post to remove some info and I'll ask those of you who have quoted my post edit their's as well.
Yeah I know the 400 day deployment makes mine look like a joke >_> benefits of the Air Force I suppose. Army has every right to make fun of us! I am in a career field at least that nowhere fits the "Chair Force" term.
I think I'm going to go with that Gateway, seems fairly affordable and I won't be upset if it craps out after the trip is over.
Thanks again.

Yeah, I got worried when my laptop was turned off and I hard accidentally "parked" it too close to the edge of the counter where I live so it just fell off and crashed onto the ground. &*!@en worried me too since I hadn't made a backup of my system.
Thankfully it was fine... until somthing deleted the Windows XP system config files and I had to reformat yesterday, lmao.
