Updated with the introduction to a WIP called
Flare
. This is a possible story I might flesh out into an actual book.

Can't believe that I haven't noticed this thread before, Queggy. That mistake was swiftly corrected. I must say the quality is pretty good and I enjoyed reading the stories. I will withhold any major judgments until I can read more, though.
That Flare project looks interesting - I mean, a "big brother" government that watches over everyone, where can that go wrong? (rhetorical question) The strong hint at upcoming space battles only adds to the potential fun.
I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind sharing some
top-secret
information. Is Gov a nickname? It just seems strange that a government hellbent on rules and propriety (taking an educated guess here) would call itself that. Also, do you plan to go more in-depth on how various technologies work (i.e. the omnipaper; shouldn't be capitalized imo as it's a name of an object, one very common from the way you describe it) or will they remain mystical tools to serve whenever the plot demands it?
It would be kind of an overstatement to say that I can't wait to read more, since you haven't introduced any conflict or suspense yet :), but I am mildly curious.
P.S. Have you listened to
Writing Excuses
? While I myself don't plan a career as a professional writer -- I do world build and write stories for fun, though -- I find it very informative and amusing.

Thanks.

Is Gov a nickname?
Yes. Given by the public and not name that they call themselves.
Also, do you plan to go more in-depth on how various technologies work (i.e. the omnipaper; shouldn't be capitalized imo as it's a name of an object, one very common from the way you describe it) or will they remain mystical tools to serve whenever the plot demands it?
First off, you're right. I should go back and un-capitalize it.
About a description, I suppose I can give you a description about it here, but I'm torn as to whether to describe it in the story. If it's kept simple without much description, it allows the reader to envision it themselves. The problem is, it makes the reader envision it for themselves. So like I said, I'm torn.
Okay description:
I basically envisioned the omnipaper as what the name describes: a paper that is used for everything. Basically a Star Trek kind of hand thingy-ma-jig. Think of it as a sort of e-paper deal, except better than what we have in our own time. It's about 1/2 the size of a regular sheet of paper, is flexible, and when not in use, is a sort of opaque plastic-y colour. What you can do with it depends on your job and clearance level with the Gov. For instance, in this intro we see a Doctor's omnipaper. At work he uses it to record patients information, jot down notes to himself, etc. Basically it's his personal computer. At home when he's not working he might just sit back, watch some TV, read a book, etc on it.
It would be kind of an overstatement to say that I can't wait to read more, since you haven't introduced any conflict or suspense yet :), but I am mildly curious.
Thanks. I don't know as to whether I would want to write a whole book about it on Wowhead, but it's definitely a story I would be willing to pursue and write more about in my (very limited) free time. Perhaps it will be published some day? Send me an email at queggy@arideni.com and I'll try to keep you posted.
;)

Never heard of it, but I'll be sure to go look at it!
Thanks again for your feedback!

World building is the best. I've made like 17... (not kidding all of em filled with at least three pages of notes along with maps...)
So if you are going to be a professional writer, i suggest world building, make some notes, then flesh out the notes and bam! a novel! (add timelines freely)
and lastly, make sure the worlds are good! i hate novels with hardly thought out worlds. Do something like LoTR... hehe just kidding he spent like 50 years of life thinking and writing about the world LoTR is set in...
(and sorry if this has been said before i didn't want to read through six pages...)
